Building a 6br hart 1-12 ( all ready have 1-8) trying to make up my mind between remington varmit contour or the regular heavy varmit. Pros cons of both.

What this feller said. A HV in a regular varmint/sporter stock will be a muzzle heavy son of a gun unless you do some serious weighting on the back end. That said I prefer HV on target rigs designed for them.

I am Re-barreling a VS with a H&S stock. After reading past posts I think I will go with the Remington contour. I won’t have to modify the stock. It is going to be a varmint gun so the balance and weight will make a difference. How much if any loss in accuracy will there be?

I have two 6 Dasher varmint hunting rigs one with a Krieger heavy varmint and the other with a Krieger light Palma. I recommend the light palma or remington varmint without a doubt. That being said on paper i can shoot smaller groups with the heavy varmint barreled gun but the weight is insane. The light palma is also super accurate and way nicer to pack around. The heavy varmint barreled cooper model 22 only balances one way and that is forward.

Any barrel that you choose to go with, go with a barrel that has a "straight taper" and NOT a "step taper".

You don't need a heavy barrel. Varmint weight is fine in my experience. A heavy rifle is no fun to lug around if you walk a lot on a hot summer day. The barrel quality will determine accuracy not the wt. for all practical purposes. I see guys on this website buying barrel brands I never heard of. At match shooter eqipment list for short range BR most of the guys are using Kreiger or Bartlein barrels. There are many other good barrel makers. Always had Kreiger barrels on my R700 GH rifles. They always easily shot under .400".
