What this feller said. A HV in a regular varmint/sporter stock will be a muzzle heavy son of a gun unless you do some serious weighting on the back end. That said I prefer HV on target rigs designed for them.Without knowing more info, I'll just say, gun balance is golden.
You don't need a heavy barrel. Varmint weight is fine in my experience. A heavy rifle is no fun to lug around if you walk a lot on a hot summer day. The barrel quality will determine accuracy not the wt. for all practical purposes. I see guys on this website buying barrel brands I never heard of. At match shooter eqipment list for short range BR most of the guys are using Kreiger or Bartlein barrels. There are many other good barrel makers. Always had Kreiger barrels on my R700 GH rifles. They always easily shot under .400".Building a 6br hart 1-12 ( all ready have 1-8) trying to make up my mind between remington varmit contour or the regular heavy varmit. Pros cons of both.
