barrel cleaning

was wondering how often you clean your barrels i shoot a 6mmppc i do some target shooting with it but use it mostly for hunting i clean about every ten rounds.
i have recently started college and now am only shooting at weekends so say if i fire 5 rounds at the weekend is it then ok to leave the rifle uncleaned untill the next weekend or is it a bad idea to leave a rifle with a dirty barrel for that lenght of time.
also can anyone tell me what sort of barrel life i should expect from a 6mm ppc.thanks.

Unless they will be going into storage for some time I only clean mine when the accuracy starts to fall off. Some will go 80 rounds or better and a few need to be cleaned at 20 rounds or so..
Setting around uncleaned for a few weeks or more don't seem to hurt anything.
Barrel life will depend on how hot, and how much they are shot when hot.
As far as hunting varmint accuracy, your grandkids should be able to shoot it and take up where you left off.

The same thought has bugged me also.

I carry a woodchuck rifle with me, daily. It's a 22-250 varmint barrel I clean when I feel like it. I might get 1 little brown terroist a week or several. I may not clean it for 3-4 weeks unless I feel guilty. I hunt on the way home from work or on Sunday am.

Once the barrel is fouled with a couple of rounds it shoots very tight. So I try not to use a clean barrel for a woodchuck over 100 yds.

I will say the pickins are gettin thin now. Time for coyotes!

All that said I do clean when I come in from the range or when its gotten wet.
