Barrel blocks vs bedded actions

GG -

Howdy !

Using a barrel block on the rifle can bring w/ it need for additional characterisitics on the associated stock; that a conventional stock alone might not present.
That could be things like need for a certain width or depth to the stock, at key points.
And questions, such as: how will the block be integrated/attached to the stock ?

There also could be some impact from the weight of the barrel block set-up, dependent on the shooting discipline the rifle will be used for. Imagine trying to intergrate a barrel block on a short range benchrest gun ( if allowed ); where weight constraints are already tight.
Barrel blocks can be accomodated a little more easily on rifles unconstrained by lower weight limits.

A barrel block ( or barrel " clamp" arrangement ) can allow for incremental adjustment of the barrel in the block. This feature can be a boon, when trying to null-out barrel vibrations.

I shoot a rifle w/ a " barrel clamp " ( and associated " stock " ) of my own design.
It really has worked out well, for my shooting needs.

I have never shot a barrel block rifle but one complaint I have heard from a couple of folks who shoot them in conventional prone (coat and sling) was that they never felt that they had a good handle on trigger control. Apparently the floating action made the trigger feel 'spongy'. Granted we tend to 'hold hard' on the pistol grips of out stocks.
The rifles did shoot great though.
