Barrel Block

Need some opinions on barrel blocks:
Does length of block make a big difference, 6 to 9 inches.
Does the action you use to fire the round have an effect on accuracy since barrel is held by a block, custom vs trued savages or remingtons.

Mine are 8 1/2" and 9" and there is no difference, but don't think I would go any shorter because of the weight of the barrel. mine are 1.450" over 30"
I have some with trued 721 Rem. and 10" BAT's and they all shoot. I think the most worry is getting a good barrel! And SMITH.

Joe is probably talking about a long range rifle. My unlimited rail guns for short range BR have 8 inch barrel blocks. The barrels are 1.50 but they are only 22 inches long. One action is a Panda and the other is a Stiller Rattler. Whatever Joe says is fine with me as I don't know long range. For short range you must get 10 shots off in a preferred condition and some times that means in a hurry. So, the point I want to make is that action must be able to allow you to do this smoothly. The action doesn't need to be particularly stiff but it has to cycle easily.

Hey guys I forgot ,I also have a L.G. with a block its 6" long the barrel is 26" and 870 at the muzzle. and it shoots real nice.Uthink Uknow we also run them when needed. That is where my BAT's comes in, Right bolt, left port.

At risk of derailing the OP's thread I have a question. Why are V-blocks oftentimes used on rail guns and usually conventionally stocked barrel blocks have cylindrical interiors?

Thanks,

Yes I believe the action has some things to do with accuracy. It has to be trued to align things. I believe it has to have good dependable ignition. If you have a heavy gun or a gun that tracks really well having the right bolt port combination helps, Like a dual port is usually faster. It does some things that would help a regular action. It takes the stresses of hanging a long heavy barrel off the action. It also helps stiffen a barrel by shortening up the unsupported barrel. In tests done it seemed the barrel block longer then 9 inches didn't help. I also like the glue in block verses the clamp block. I believe the glue in has less stress. I have seen guys take a great shooting gun and remove from a clamp block and when they put it back in it wouldn't shoot near as good. Matt
