Barrel block bedding?

I have some questions on barrel block bedding.

1/ Any reason not to barrel block bed a .308 for F T/R?

2/ I assume that when using a barrel block the recoil lug is not used?

3/ How long and how close to the action should the block be?

Thanks! Jon

Jon,
I shoot a Gilkes/Ross. This rifle uses a Block (clamp) to hold the barreled action to the stock. Using this allows the action to free float and the barrel forward of the block to free float, So!

1. can't think of any reason.

2. Nope, no recoil lug.

3. forward of the chamber where the barrel has no taper.

You can swap out to different actions as well, that way it is one stock for multiple actions in different calibers.

Jim.
Did you have any problems making weight with a block on the F-T/R gun? I've seen a couple on F-Open guns but not F-T/R.

Tony,
I don't shoot in F Class. I do shoot the old way with a sling. The rifle would make the weight class anyway. I believe the FTR class weight is around 16-18 lbs and the rifle with sights and all comes in around 14 lbs.

Tony,
When I shoot 308 I use a Kreiger medium palma weight 30" long 1/12 twist. Mostly I shoot Berger 185 VLD's and sometimes 175 SMK's . All pushed by Varget.
