Barrel advice needed

I am having a custom 7mm Rem mag built and here is what I have so far , stiller predator and a manners t4 , now comes the question, I wanted a krieger heavy Palma in 5r but that seems to be a white elephant, I think I want 30" of tube . It seems I can only find 4 groove barrels with the exception of a heavy varmint in 5r or 4 groove. Will the heavy varmint be a good replacement or should I look for something else?

Bullets.com might have a Bartlien 5r close to what you are looking for. I think I saw a med Palma in stock just the other day.

Also post what you are looking for in the classifieds. You never know what someone is sitting on and not going to use.

Sounds like anew awesome build.

Good luck
Nick

I have four heavy varmint barrels on manners stocked rifles.. imo they are pretty heavy.. 30 inch tube would be pushing it though.

They do make for a heavy weight rifle..

If you do a heavy varmint itd be absolutely fine for a 7 mag, id just do 28 inches max..

You might consider a Brux or Mullerworks. Look at Bugholes list.
Edit: No 7mm in Mullerworks. They have a Brux in Remington varmint tho.

How much material did you remove from the stock to put the heavy varmint on the manners?

I did post in the he classifieds and had no reply , is there an advantage to 5r over 4 groove? I am new to the 5r thing. The guys that have them seem to like them , they claim they are a lot easier to clean.

Honestly I don't shoot at that level to say if there is a noticeable accuracy difference. I have used both but I shoot mostly sling and irons or hunting. The only difference is have noticed with the 5r is the few barrels that I have had they all seemed to last a bit longer. I am a Bartlein and Brux fan but I think you would be very happy with any of the major names.

I think the heavy varmint would be a suitable replacement. You would have to open up the barrel channel a bit. They have a different taper but it can be done.

You didn't say what this rifle is for. But a 30 inch barrel is pretty heavy in those big contours. It may be more of a hassle then you think. I only have 30 inch plus barrels on my target rifles and that is mostly for the increased sight radius.

Best of Luck

Just wondering , how much material did you have to remove from your stock for the HV ?

I dont know how to accurately quantify it, but id say it was a good amount. Maybe around .09"-.125" in some places.

I remember setting it up in my mill with a 1" ball mill and making a few sizable passes, the scraping it smooth.
