BARNES VARMINT GRENADE 36gr

can i get a 36gr out of a 22-250?
is 40gr as low as i can go if so i need to know a good load to start at got a good deal on a box and heard the grenades were
fun on small varmints
thank you

Lonnie: I'd stay away from the VG unless your in the lead free zone. Low B.C. and fair accuracy. With a 1.5 B.C., velocity falls off fast and lots of wind drift. You should be shooting mimimum 50g bullets like the V-max in the 22-250. Plenty of velocity and higher B.C. It you must shoot light bullets, try the 40g Nosler BT and V-Max.

Hi Lonnie,
Another reason to stay away from the Varmint Grenades is that over 200 yards, you will probably wound a lot of animals. A 50 or 55 grain Vmax will give you a much better range, and is much more lethal. My far kill to date is a groundhog at 790 yards with a 22-250 using the 55 grain Berger.

The 36's will work fine out of a 12"twist. BC of .150 is not great, but similar to Sierra 40 varminters. The VG's are suppose to expand better at longer ranges. I have found accuracy to be decent, but better bullets can be had in that price range.
