Barnes Match burners

does anyone still use these? Any reason not use them for practice? I have 200 hundred 69gr (.224) I was told they use a soft gilding metal and will copper a barrel quicker than others. ????

I would call them are verify that claim. Perhaps whoever said that was thinking of their monolithic copper hunting bullets. They have been making cup and core bullets far longer than the all-copper ones.

I've just recently tried the 7mm 171 Match B in my 7mm/08 and as far as accuracy goes they are the best I have ever used in that rifle, and I have tried many different bullets. No more copper fouling than any of the other Sierra's or Bergers that I have used in that rifle.JME

Thanks for the replies. Had these 69 gr on the shelf for years. Will try them today mostly working on wind calls at 300.
Thanks again

I've reloaded (not a lot) of the 69g Match burners for the Tikka, only because here behind enemy lines we are not allowed to use lead bullets for hunting. I have developed a load based on my reloads with the 69 g SMK's that I like to use on the ground squirrel overpopulation in Norther California. Accurate is good, not as fast, but usable.

Verify. Don't believe everything people tell you.

Curious as to what cartridge ? 223 ? My 69 scenar load for my Ar/Krieger is 23.5 grains Ar-comp. Lapua cases. It might be good for your match burners also ? I have not tried the match burners but i would have full confidence in them. With the right powder charge they might be your favorite !

You need varmint grenade's / non lead.

So I tried the Match Burners over IMR 8208 they seemed to shoot as good as the VLD's in my rifle. No special fouling noted.

I shoot them in 223, 260 Improved, and 308. They shoot as good or better than any Hornady, Nosler, or Sierra bullets have for me.
No more copper fouling than any other cup and core bullets I’ve ever shot.

Here's what they have done for me in my 223 Ackley..........I just tossed these loads together and bingo.....an impromptu 200 yard range session at my brother's place netted me these results!

Sorry about the sloppy pic....I just put it together since they were such positive results......of course YMMV
