Barnes Match bullets

For the article in the Daily Bulletin on the Barnes Match bullets I was wondering if anyone at the shot show got the ballistic Co's for the 6mm 68 and 105 grain match ...just knowing that solid copper bullets need to be longer per given weight compared to normal cup and core bullets this might be pretty sweet for Match bullets as far as BC's. also did anyone spy the actual product?? are they grooved?

Thanks

It seems to me that solid copper bullets have inherent disadvantages that will always make them a poor second choice compared to lead core. BC is just bore, weight, and profile. However, since copper is less dense than lead, the length for the same weigh will always be longer. This means they need more spin for the same weight and BC, which always decreases accuracy. Further they seem to need grooves to break up the long bearing surface. The grooves in turn reduce BC. Perhaps I'm missing something, but they strike me as a loser for a match bullet.

I believe they have a tungsten core bullet to get a higher BC. Since tungsten is heavier than lead, that may work, if they can make it uniform and at a reasonable cost.

I've just emailed Barnes to insure that the new match line will indeed be standard "cup 'n core" vs. solids. Will post the answer when received. Usually same day answers.

Why would they announce the release of their product, and provide no details about it that are relevant to the market they're pursuing?

Especially for the 105gr bullets... They're introducing a new match bullet that's priced right next to the Amax in the 105gr class, in terms of cost. The first question out of the mouth of every shooter using 100gr+ 6mm bullets is going to be "Whats the BC?" Why would they not publish it at the same time they publicly made the announcement that they would be available?

I'll never understand sales or marketing...

Just received reply from Tim Jansen, R&D Engineer at Barnes. The new match line will be conventional gilding metal jacketeds, lead core, hollow points. Full details to come at time of release for shipping.

So they have finally figured out that solid copper bullets do have their limitations... Wonder if they will be buying J4 Jackets from Berger?

Price wise the Amax's are are around or at 20.00 the Barnes I see are 26.00 thats closer to the Berger 105 vld match for price. Prices dont compare to Amax's

Barnes has been making bullets for many, many years. They aren't entering their first rodeo with lead core bullets. As capable as they are, they are probably producing their own jackets. Competition between our bullet makers is a good thing for everyone.

All the components for creating their match bullets will be made in house and I fully expect them to be as good as can be found anywhere. It's true...this is not their first rodeo. And their solid copper hunting bullets have as good or better reputation for being wicked, non-dissintegrating killing machines as can be found and the envy of many companies. All the brands have tried to copy those but they are the leaders in that technology with many decades of experience. I've personally run many boxes of the polimer tipped AMAXs through my Swede and don't consider them to be any real prize for top accuracy IMHO. I personally hope they stay away from the temtation to tip their bullet and send us bullets that resemble the Bergers and Lapuas. Again, my opinion and high hopes. My newest little friend is their 130gr TSX for accuracy out of my 8" twist 6.5x55. They rival accuracy of the Scenars out of my rifle with either n160 or RL22.
