barnes bullet ??

i am looking at barnes TSX and TTSX bullet in 7mm 120gr for hunting. it will be a 7-08 aroung 2900-3000fps what would be the best or would you use something else ?

I have a 284 custom built Rem action built over 20 years ago for the 140 barnes. 11 elk , 1 moose, countless deer. All one shot, all pass thru. Farthest shot on elk 360 yds...pass thru. 2900 fps, I think you should go with the 140's you'll be going at about 2750, maybe tad higher. Remember on Barnes A .050 jump to lands to keep pressure down, call Barnes and ask them if you like. Randy Brooks told me that years back and new Triple Shock same. Hope it helps, Pete

686---- you can't go wrong with the 120's......
load em for 5 7-08s....one shoots the 140's more accurately tho.....

The Barnes Tipped Tripple Shocks are in a class all by themselves. I am now shooting them in my 308. I will be shooting them in my .264 and 300 Win mag soon.

I have read some rather lengthy forum debates on the Barnes. Some photos of the bullet itself and wound channels were included. Some bullets had absolutely no expansion, some were expanded and weight retained perfectly. Appears to make a great deal of difference on distance, velocity and where hit. I personally do not like a bullet that fails to expand and retain most of its' weight - pass through or not. I have Barnes loaded in two different callibers for a couple persons to use on whitetail next weekend. I will be very interested as to the results obtained.

Hello, my name is Sydney. My grandfather decided to let me respond to this one. This has been my success with Barnes bullets! I have a .308 that I primarily use while hunting. In the photo of the two pigs I used my .223. Those were the first two animals I ever shot, I was eight years old and I shot them both within half and hour of each other using Barnes bullets. I have shot multiple other animals using this brand, I've killed many pigs and I shot my first doe with them. A couple years later when I was ten I got the chance to shoot a water buffalo. I was ten years old and I went out with a guide and my father and I got him down with one shot between the eyes using my .308, Barnes Bullets put my on there website for this! The target were my practice shots before I go hunting this coming up weekend. I strongly like their bullets!

Yes get a 223 and put 55gr TSX down it. Nails everything in front of it. Big red NZ stags go to heaven very quickly.

In Lead Free CA or will be, I've had terrible results with the Varmint Grenades. Have become discouraged several times, but still trying. The next attempt will be in a 22BR with a 10 twist and a 223 Savage with a 9 twist and a scope that works. My 4200 Bushnell died!

Aside from the Varmint Grenades, the others seem to work and shoot well. Took an elk with the 300 gr .45 hollowpoint in a muzzle loader; Absolutely devastating. DRT!!! That rifle and load combination would shoot about 1.5 inches at 100 using a 4 X scope.

Have Fun.

It makes a difference, depending on what you intend to hunt. What are you hunting?

There ya go Lapua40X...sometimes I am to forward on me and my gun, please excuse me everyone. So 686 if your only doing antelope/deer the 120 would be the ticket. I just found out over the years the versatility of the 284, one bullet can do it all, just place the shot and be right on. But that is the 284, not your 7/08. AHHH so little time so much to do! Pete
