Barnes 62g vg

Have any of you tried these out in 243. I keep seeing them for sell at decent price but have not heard much about there performance.Anybody with experience with them please let me know. Thanks!!

I just bought some. I will give you a range report as soon as I can work up a respectable load. My 243 loves the 58 VMax so much, that I am not in a hurry. California is going to lead free so I will have to switch though.

I use Barnes Varmint Grenade 62 gr. Hp. in my 6br. Shoots one little clover leaf @ 200 yrds. On Yotes when they say Varmint Grenade Barnes means it. Not a 243, but thought this might help.. Tommy Mc..

Thanks everbody I to have been using the 58gv-maxs and love them for that small of a bullet. But have been thinking of trying the 62gvg.Thanks again for any info.

When California switched to lead-free in my area a few years back, I tried all available lead-free including the 62 VG. I shoot them in an old Ruger varmint model that has never shot ANYTHING better than .600" with ANY bullet/powder combo. The 62 VG shoots better than anything in this rifle - at about .400" for 5-shot groups @100. I was surprised to say the least. My rifle favors Federal 210 primers, 49.0 grains of RL19. My bullets are mollied so I'd drop down 4/10th or so if going bare. I got approx. 3,500 f.p.s. . I'd start a few grains below this as this was not hot - but was warm in my rifle. Squirrels blow up quite impressively due to the LARGE hollowpoint. Coyotes look like they were hit with lightening and seldom a pass-through unless shot very close. They lood like a flying beer can compared to target bullets but they work well indeed out to 500 - 600 yards on small stuff. Because they are long for weight, they seem to get squirrelly as do all of the lead free varmint version bullets past that.
