Barnard P Striker Spring

I have a Barnard that I use for F-open. It's that time of year to change out striker springs. I have a new "heavy" spring from Whidden, but that spring, in my opinion, is unsuitable and unnecessary. The increase in bolt lift is too much for a good setup in the bags, and I've never even slightly suspected that I needed more spring.

Whidden doesn't have access to any standard rate springs. I have an email off to Barnard in New Zealand. I figure they'll respond tonight.

Does anyone know if there is another option for a comparable spring, available domestically, that we can use? I measured and compared to a REM 700 24# spring. The OD is the same, within .006" but the ID is a bit smaller on the Barnard (courtesy of the higher 32# rate). Would a Wolff 32# spring for a REM 700 SA work?

TIA,
Keith

26 years ago, I brought the first P to the USA. In all that time, neither I or mac tilton saw the need to replace a main spring. I have a few around, but have never needed one. Have you measured the loaded length # rate?

Barnard told me that there wasn't really any reason to change their springs. Kept the original spring going until I sold the action with not one problem.

I was at The Barnard Shop a few years back . I spent a lot of cash on parts . I was told the same thing . “ We have never had a firing Pin Spring go Bad “ .
There is a person or two out here that has all my spare parts ?
I sold Springs and Complete Fifing Pins and Extractors

Another member sent me some spare springs he had. That is one of the things I love about this community!

Thanks Frank!

I recently figured out how to measure spring rates. I have been changing them out of habit. I do have one that is weak, but I figured out that the loctite had failed on that one, and allowed the cocking piece to rotate/loosen. I'm going to change that one out to see if there is a change in rate.

I am going to start measuring a little more, and changing parts a little less, across all action types.

Not meaning to change the subject. Just wondering if anyone has Barnard P bolts? I’m looking to replace a .308 with .223 bolt.. It would be nice to trade with someone.
