Barnard P bolt question??

Hi folks; a question for other Barnard P owners: I recently had a dedicated prone gun (sling/open sights) built on a Barnard P action. I've noticed that the end cap on the bolt will gradually unscrew (loosen) as I shoot a string.

I have marked the cap and bolt body so that I can quickly see when the cap begins to unscrew, but I was wondering if there is a good solution to the problem. Have you folks seen this problem? Can I use a drop or blue Locktight to keep the cap from unscrewing? Other solutions?

Thanks for any advice.

Have you tried tightening it with a hex key? I assume they put that hex in there for a reason.

I don't have any shooting experience with mine- still a bare action.

Just use a small piece of teflon tape under the bolt cap. You just have to make sure that the tape does not get into the slot for the firing pin. Very easy to do and has always worked for me. It also makes removing the bolt cap easier than if you were to use locktite.

I just tighten mine with a hex key and never had a problem. I have a couple actions and three bolts and ever had an issue that way. Just tighten it.

Yep, tighten it down with a hex key. I had it loosen during a match (after just hand tightening it) and a fellow Barnard shooter diagnosed it for me (who happened to be the team coach at the time) when I started seeing some unexplained vertical in the middle of a string. If it's not tight enough, it will loosen up on the bolt cycle over time.

Hi
We use a lot of them in OZ, and we find if you wipe off the grease in the cap and around the ball it will not move after that, even finger tight is enough to hold my 7mm saum for a 20+ round match.
