Barnard or Quadlock?

Which one is the 'best?',Action and Trigger)

They are a similar price, so dont really need a discussion on the best value.

Any input appreciated.

Barnard with a Mastin F Class/ Benchrest Stock supporting a 9 pound Bartlein barrel. Barnard Trigger second to none in quality and ease of adjustment.

and another addition to my Barnard stable.....

Why should you get a Barnard? Because you will never be sorry you did!!! You will never part with a Barnard. If you get a Barnard in the US you also get Mac Tilton of MT Guns. Both are exceptional.

Jeff,
What kind of hardware is that on the first gun pictured?... The space gun.

Tell us a little more about your Barnards...

The Space Gun is a Gary Elisio/ Competition Shooting Stuff B1 Stock that was done almost 2 years ago. Chambered in 6XC with a 32 inch TrueFlite from Steve Blenkarne in New Zealand. Rear sight is an RPA ARW Trakker along with a 22mm RPA front tunnel. Rear grip is a Foxbat so it moves my hand farther back. Garys design and work is really awesome. I have a lot of respect for him because he thinks outside the box.

The second rifle is chambered in 6XC with a 29 inch TrueFlite tube. Stock is a Mastin Palma Offset. Optics are Zeiss Diavari 24x56 from Alex at Euro-Optics. Scope rail is a 25moa made by Mac Tilton of MT Guns. This one can go optics or irons as needed same as Scott Parkers rifle. This action is actually taken from the first rifle above. I am more comfortable with the traditional wood stock layout. Its just a personal choice.

Third is my most recent build. Chamber is 6.5x55 Match using a Bartlein Barrel F/Class profile 5R with a 1 in 8 twist. I went with the 6.5x55 because the Barnard can really exploit the higher velocity's that hide in this cartridge. It will not burn up barrels like a 284 does. The wood is a Mastin F-Class/Benchrest that I finished myself. Scope rail is 25moa from Mac Tilton and a second Zeiss Diavari 24x56. I just shot this one last weekend for the first time and currently working up loads.

On all the barrel work was performed by the legendary Mac Tilton of MT Guns. The scope rails are of his own design and the quality of his work is reflected in everything he does.

I am not writing to sell anyones products or services. Mac, Steve,Gary, B&M Enterprises and Mastin are known throughout the shooting community and reputations speak for themselves. I only endorse what I know by personal experience.

The Barnard Model P action is a simple stout design. Burly is the right word to describe it. Its features are user friendly and the bolt can be disassembled for cleaning without tools. Tolerances are held to a uniform minimum . Machine and finish work first rate. No blue printing needed right out of the box. Bolt is a 3 lug design. Working the bolt is a one finger operation unless you jam bullets deep. If someone is looking for a light weight action the Model P may be too heavy but Barnard has a solution to that- the Model S which shares the Remington 700 profile. The Model S cannot be compared to the Remy though, its on a different level.

Another benefit of the Barnard is the V- Block bedding system used in the Mastin stocks. Simple, easy, interchangeability of actions,no problems with loosening or wear of bedding materials.

I went Barnard to uncomplicate. For me it was the obvious choice. It may not be the right choice for others. The best thing about our sport is we have so many exceptional products to choose from. No matter what you decide talk to people about equipment and ask questions.

Jef,

I live and work near Mac Tilton's shop in Santa Barbara, and I concur that we are lucky to have someone bring the Mastin/Barnard products into the country.

When I see the prices charged by some "tactical" rifle builders for a Rem-actioned gun with a factory trigger I wonder why more people don't go the Barnard V-block route. I've personally seen how well these rigs can shoot, thanks to Scott Parker. It really can be a cost-effective solution that gives up virtually nothing in the way of accuracy.

Jeff,
Can't find Gary Elisio's site or phone number. I really like the looks fo his space gun..

Please post contact info..

I am going to treat myself to a Barnard for Christmas....
