Barnard action jam

Got a very strange problem. I was half way thru fireforming 300 lapua brass, and my model P action bolt jammed shut. I could rotate the bolt ok, but it would not retract. I assumed that for some reason the case was stuck in the chamber, so i put a cleaning rod down the barrel and with the bolt rotated to the UP position, i tapped the cleaning rod. No move. Tap turns to hammer, No move.
I gave the bolt lever a good crack, and out came the bolt, the cartridge case fell out. but the extractor tip was broken off.
So i replaced the extractor, tried the bolt in several times OK, put a new cartridge in, it went in easy, and tried to remove it and could not, jammed.
So now i have a new unfired cartridge in the chamber and cant remove.
I removed the trigger and fireing pin from the action, put a cleaning rod in and have hammered away to no success. When the bolt handle is in the up position i can move the bolt ahead and back almost 1-8th inch, but no further. This makes no sense, 146 rounds thru and now back to back jams. By the way it is 7mm Shehane chamber

If I read this right, you have inserted a cleaning rod down the barrel on top of an unfired round and have been hammering on the rod. That sounds particularly dangerous to me. Try tapping on the bolt handle instead.

I would call Barnard and talk with them about it.

Can you take the barrel off as tapping on that live round is insanely dangerous.Take a plastic mallet to the bolt handle and tap on that,if it wont budge,it is time to take the barrel off with a receiver wrench, and barrel vise and see if unscrewing it helps pull the cartridge out.If you feel it would damage something then send the rifle to barnard and have them remove it.

PS: Could the front action screw be interfering for some reason, and is it a no turn neck?

Sounds like your extractor is bound up u will have to pull barrel and remove round from bolt face. Exctractor is hitting action lug with round in place ill bet. Dont beat on Barnard bolt handle they are not as tuff as people think. Herbert

It is no doubt a fire forming issue. From what caliber case to what caiber were you fire forming?

If the case shoulder does not bear on the chamber shoulder, all the load is on the extractor and it will break everytime.

Proper fire-forming methods (false shoulder,ets...) were described here ane there many times

The problem was with the extractor install. There is a tiny spring loaded plunger that has a flat ground on the end. The flat is designed to go overtop of the end of the extractor to hold it in place.
When i installed the new extractor my vision is not good enough to see the flat part, it must have rotated in the hole and the flat side was down.
That allowed the rear of the extractor to move out and jam the bolt.
Using a piece of aluminum flat stock positioned at the base of the bolt handle, and tapping the flat stock got the bolt out.
What i am not sure about is how or why the first jam occured, but neck turning may be neccessary

I hate to admit to it (blush), but the same thing happened to me :-[ once upon a time. I am not going to discuss how I got the action un-jammed, but I will tell you what caused it. You might talk to your gunsmith. When the counter-bore at back of the chamber is not opened up wide enough to accept the bolt face lug area, the extractor will strike the counter-bore side sufficiently to dis-lodge the extractor, which in turn becomes caught between the lower locking lug of the closed bolt...causing great anguish. Again, review the cause of the mishap with your gunsmith.
