Bare actions...

Keep in mind that I live in Idaho, and technology travels here slowly. Over on Benchrest Central a gentleman has a couple new 700 SA's for sale. No bolts or triggers, just bare actions.

Why would someone:
a. buy complete actions and strip them to sell as components
OR
b. buy stripped actions?

My guess is that one would purchase it because it's easier than buying complete and then selling everything. If one were to want an aftermarket bolt (ala PTG) and you're gonna upgrade the trigger anyway then just grabbing the action could make sense.
I guess that answers part "b".
Part "a"... to make money is my guess.

i believe that PTG for one buys actions without bolts frm remington and puts their bolts in them. of coarse many people want a better trigger than the remington factory.

Good question Idaho. I've watched a guy sell bare actions on many different forums and never could come up with a good answer for either one of your questions in my mind. The guy that I see selling those actions, I have never seen him advertise a trigger, bolt, or barrel.

I could be wrong but for some reason PTG sales the factory bolts separate The reason I'm saying if you look on their website they have factory bolts always on sale always just 308 bolt face are usually run around $150 complete that being said I figure they buy the complete action and then sell their bolt with it if people want them

well i guess it all depends on what you are trying to do.

these days you can buy a complete rem 700 factory rifle for what a trued up 700 PT&G action cost on sale.

with just the action

you can turn it into a remage and have to option of many different chamberings by just switching barrels.

you have access to many different premium barrels, triggers and stock choices

sure you will spend a lot more and for most that factory 700 will probably do the job but it is a less expensive route then going completely custom.

d8fferent strokes for different folks

i believe i remember a thread where kiff posted he purchased bare actions but i dont know for sure either. i have purchased several R700 actions from them that came with the ptg bolt. makes sense they would buy bare actions but again dont know for sure

Cheaper than Dirt also sells actions. With and with out the other parts. My guess as to why some one would buy that way was the up graded to a PTG bolt or they changed calibers and decided now they have a homeless bolt and want an action for it.
