Banning Of PD Shooting In Co.

I read this on the Predator Masters Forum and I thought some of you guys may not know this. Here it is.

Gentlemen,

I am going around to the forums to notify us in the community that the Colorado Wildlife Commission is seriously considering banning varmint hunting in CO. On their website it states: "a citizen petition was introduced for banning the shooting of prairie dogs."

http://wildlife.state.co.us/WildlifeCommission/

I have been in touch with the Commissioners,Roy McAnally & Dennis G. Buechler) about this.

I can only ask that residents of CO act quickly and explain the situation to the commission. As it is now, they view it as live 'target practice' which they find "reprehensible in every aspect". They have already succeeded in getting Sportsman's Warehouse to pull many "Varmint Hunting' videos from it's shelves.

The petition can be viewed here. Your help is crucial at this moment would be greatly appreciated.

How about a ban on senseless petitions by individuals that know absolutely nothing of wildlife management.:D

I think once they understand how much money is brought into an area that allows PD hunting they will hopefully reconsider. Look at it this way cost to poison the PD, millions to be paid out vs millions brought into the area by hunters and guides. Also poisioned areas kill other species also.

Holy Moly, I just get sick to my stomach with this crap.

What in the world is wrong with these people? Or is it me? I've shot hundreds of these pests and every rancher I've ever hunted on has thanked me for it. What is it with the citizens of Colorado? Did the whole state of California just move to Colorado?

You got that right...

:)

.

Maybe the Ranchers should send their VET bills to the state for stock the've had to put down with broken legs.

If anybody from California moved to Colorado, they had to be from San Francisco or farther South! And good riddance!! ;) :thumb:

This is really nothing new. Before I moved from Colorado in 2000, the talk of banning PD hunting had been going on for at least a couple years. Some of the persons involved must have owned stock in the chemical plants that make poison. The Bubonic plague was found coincidently in several locations at about the same time. I always thought of this as like the movie, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". As an effort to scare off the hunters, increase the populations of PDs to justify more poisoning.
Most of the ranchers in the eastern plain of Colorado will welcome as many hunters as they can get. As mentioned above, PDs are very damaging to the stockmans livelihood.

These are tree hugger college kids with absolutely NO practical experience in life.

With any luck they will be laughed out of the building.

But my information is that a lot of CO is getting "Kalifornicated".

I'm a little queasy about a state that continues to allow Ward Churchill to teach.

1 of the ranches that I shoot PDs at in SD is along the Missouri river.his land runs along the river which is controlled by the CORPS of ENGINEERS. In the Corps right of way they will not allow him to POISON PDs.So he is MORE than happy to let us shoot them. 1 of the towns is over 3/4 mile square. He's so happy he invites us to his families deer hunt every year.

It must be the animal protection nuts and lord knows if they are from California or not, I agree with you guys. Now I dont go to Co for praire dogs, but rather to SD and Wy. I see what an impact it would make on many aspects of our economy by stopping us from varmint hunting. I work hard at 3 jobs and I am happy to spend my hard earned maney on the guides, the ranchers, the profit making thieves of the gas companies to drive there, gun manufactures, gun smiths, any company which involves reloading, hotels, fast food along the way,not to mention the cardiology care afterwards), oh and let us not forget alcohol. The list could go on. I currently have 2200 reasons loaded why I support the ban the anti-praire dog shooting morons. I will be making them angry come the middle of june and making the cardiologists happy from my fast food and alcohol consumption and everyone else happy that I spend my money on during my annual trip. Happy shooting!!

halfmile: You better get it right. They are "dirt loving" tree huggers and the biggest majority of them are still here in Northern California. They're one of the biggest reasons the logging industry went in the toilet. You can get them out of the top of a redwood tree,on your private property)with a M1A!,SSS) ;)

As to Ward Churchill he was fired but as you know most colleges have programs, Boulder campus allows for guest teacher requested by students,I assume some teachers had a hand in this) well Churchill is a guest teacher.

When we moved to Co in the 70's Boulder was know as the other California all I can say it's amazing what comes out of that campus and town.

Most of the students at Boulder Campus are from out of state and the law students who file that suit and the one on Rocky Mtn Parks may just have a class project. Only thing I can say is I'm glad we don't have Boulder running the state about time you think things are calm here they go again make you appreciate the freedom we have.

Here is a email I got today.

Guys, I don’t know if you’ve heard yet, but there is a proposition before the CO Wildlife Commission that would BAN prairie dog shooting in the entire State of Colorado, including on private land. On May 1 & 2 there is a meeting in Grand Junction where the COWC will be hearing arguments against the proposal. If this passes in CO, whose State is next?

Here’s what I’d like you to do. Go to Predator Masters and go to the Varmint Hunting forum and read the last page of the thread about “CO Wildlife Commission to ban varmint shooting”. If you would like to help us fight this, make a post saying so. We need all the support we can get to fight the bunny huggers. Your post showing support just may motivate some of the “fence sitters” in the membership. If you can’t show up in person in GJ, then putting your name on our petition is the next best thing. But an army of varmint hunters standing in front of the Game Commissioners on May 1st is our best defense.

I will be going to the meeting.
Lyle,

Thud your right.they dont realize how much people spend on shooting components.they might be broke if it wernt for varment hunters:D

Lyle,

Those video's what I call blood/guts part of shooting would offend any no-hunter and add fuel to the fire people like to eat beef but they don't want to see the slaughterhouse. My wife hunts and she won't watch that type of stuff and we all know the damage a PD will do. My thing is with the guys who made those video and everyone who shoots PD knows what happens, it put all of us in a bad light so we have to defend what we do based on those video.

I don't think any sportman wants to be protraited like those video did at least not on camera so as a resident of Colorado and varmit shooter do I support PD hunting or try and defend myself agsainst those video and thats what DOW is looking and thats all anyone is going to see. It's not going to pass on cattle ranches they tried that once before on the ban east of I-25 shooting PD only could do it on public land and we learned to shoot around that ban over here.

Unfortunately, the good citizens of Colorado will find out the hard way.

My sister and her family relocated from Connecticut to the Denver area about a year ago. She was horrified to find that prairie dogs were living within the city limits and did a great job of teaching her seven year old son to stay far away from the rodents because "honey, those animals make people sick". A few months after moving to Colorado, the Denver zoo lost some exotic animals to,yep, you guessed it) bubonic plague. The local news media quietly reported the problem without using the term bubonic plague.

I fear that nothing will change until some children die.

Colorado is pretty good at reporting the plague and cause you might want to read this article

I agree children should be warned but almost all states have some sort of problem even this one

I read a deal about the plague in bat somewhere in Ct maybe you could see if that was true. Oh I found it

Oldroper,

Ok, maybe I missed it. Which link shows a local media medium reporting the death of animals in the Denver zoo due to bubonic plague?
