Ballistics App

Been using Bullet Flight for years. Time to update. What's your first choice these days? Considering Applied Ballistics. Open to any apps and reasons to pick something else. Thanks guys!

I have used Strelok Pro and it works good and has great support from the developer. I purchased a Sig Kilo 2400ABS and it works awesome. With all the on bosrd sensors and the Applied Balistics software it spits out dope as far as the range finder will range. My particular model is now obsolete and has been replaced with the Sig Kilo 8K. I'm sure the ranging capabilities of the new model are way better than the older version. I've been tempted to get a pair of the Sig 10K binoculars. I've heard good things about them but the glass is an area that suffers when trying to put a display integrated into alpha quality glass.

I've got several but know the Applied Ballistics software app better than any of the others and use it the most. I like how it gets the current weather and incorporates it automatically. But that said, I don't know what your intended purpose it, but I got the Kestrel 5700 Elite with the AB software. Nothing else even comes close. And what I like the most, is prior to the shot, I get the actual wind and direction and have that in my dope. With anything else, my wind incorporation is pretty sketchy.

Strelok Pro. The creator keeps it well updated and is responsive to interests. I have used others in the past, but Strelok is my go-to anymore.

I pretty much have them all! Shooter resolves well for me in centerfire. Applied Ballistics for Rimfire. The Kestrel for ELR.
Hornady for Nothing! Strelok works ok, I just prefer Shooter. All the phone apps pick up weather from a close? station. The Kestrel IS a weather station. It updates pressure and temperature on the go.

I have Shooter and StrelokPro. They run neck and neck with outputs. StrelokPro updates all the time. Shooter, can’t remember the last update, but it still puts out accurate firing solutions.

My favorite is “BallisticsARC”.

Like how if I close the app and reopen, it goes right to where I left it with no delay. So when hunting I leave it on the drop table for the rifle I’m carrying. Tap the app icon my drop table is up and ready in about 1.5 seconds. I just make a quick educated guess of exact dial on yardage by going with the 50 yard increments I have the table set on or can quickly enter the exact yardage to have it give me the exact amount of MOA I need to dial up.

Tho I don’t use the apps much anymore for hunting. Mostly just use it for long range practice sessions at the range. I use the Leica Geovid 3200.com binoculars for hunting. Hit the button to range and the binos tell me what to dial. Easy peasy.

Will you be using as a stand alone unit? With a Kestrel? With RF binos with onboard solver? RF binos with Kestrel?

I have Strelok, Shooter, AB lite in my 3000BDX RF binos and AB in my Kestrel.

If hunting, where many times shot opportunities are quick, the 3000BDX are my go to. They are a stand alone tool, good for my max range of 600 yds for big game and nothing else needed for support, but on my own for wind. If time allows, I'll connect with the Kestrel.

PRS types of shooting I use the 3000BDX connected to the Kestrel to get way out there to what I need and having real time environmentals is a plus.

Since I acquired the RF binos, my Shooter app has been mostly dormant and I have very limited use with Strelok.

In the end, IMO, I think they are all good at providing solid data, assuming inputs are entered correctly. If any of the solvers available were not good, I suspect they wouldn't hang around for long. As the saying goes, trash data in, trash data out.

For Long range where bullet slows down 1-1.1 Mach here are the most crucial factors:
1) Correct Wind call
2) LRF to estimate the distance if it is not a fixed distance shooting
3) Good G7 BC value and not the inflated manufacturer box value.
4) Good MV reading from Labradar or Magneetospeed
5) Good tracking scope with clear enough optics
6) Zeroed rifle
7) Decent shooter
8) A good Ballistic Solver App.

I used and compared several ballistic calculators, and all gave essentially the same results out to 1200yd which is the extent of my shooting. It boils down to which interface you like the best. In this vein I'm a minimalist when it comes to techy gear, and Strelok serves my needs. Note all smartphones have built in barometric pressure measurement and temperature (biased due to heat by the phone).

The critically of accurate ranging and integrating the wind depends on distance you plan to shoot. The app doesn't matter so much and I could get by with my dope book with density altitude tables easily out to 600yd.

Hornady 4dof and BallisticArc are very good
It was nice that Hornady had modeled the 7mm 183 gr Sierras
and in the pull down list. Plug in the numbers for the range you
are going to, and it's been pretty accurate. I use JBM quite a bit.
