Ballastic Programs

Hey guys I need a little help with understanding the ballastic program with the plug in values. First of all I don't have a chony. I normally do my reloading using the manuals. Hopefully this year I invest in a nice chony. I use the estimated velocity that the manual gives. Some the fill information is a concern with particularly when it come to altitude an you live in southern Louisiana.
I don't want to plug in the wrong information which result into bad numbers. Do anybody have any suggestions on any default values that I can plug in to get some results. I am trying to get a idea of my elevation adjustments for my F-Class gun before I go out to the range again.

If you just need altitude, call the closest airport and ask them, or get a topo map it will be marked on them.
I use a Kestral 3500 for all the info I need.
Look at the CED M2 when you get ready to buy a chrono.

It's just my opinion but if you are guessing at the velocity you might as well guess at all the other input also. Velocity and BC are the two most important factors in any ballistic calculation and if you over or under estimate them, other things, such as an error of a couple of hundred feet in altitude, won't make much difference.

things that you need to make a Ballistic Program work for you. 1. Portable weather station,take to the range) to include Humidity Gage,Barometric pressure,temp, wind meter. 2. Chronograph. 3 notebook for writing the weather info down along with load info. There really are no Default settings for a Ballistic program, and their only as good as the info that's put into it.
