Balance point for a bench rifle

I am in the process of building a 6br for informal benchrest competitions. What I was wondering was where should the balance point on the rifle be for it to track in the bags well? I am using a Remingotn 700 SA with Krieger HV taper barrel 28" long. Weight is not a limitation as I said it is informal competitions.

I can live with anywhere from the 1"-3" inches in front of the action face. I prefer 1", but have rifles that shoot very well with the balance out a bit further. On a rifle with no restrictions, it should be very easy to get it right where you want it.

On my 6ppc, I have a weight system in the butt that allows me to do a little balance tuning.,not too much, I have a weight limit)I think that having this capability is a good thing. That way you can try different balance points to see what works the best for your particular combination.
