Back to the Good Old days

95 degrees out and 58% humidity. Feels like temp is 101. Friday afternoon, 6:30 PM. A/C goes out.

Forgot how hot it can get around here without a/c.. Left home at 20 and never spent one day with air conditioning in the house. I didn't see any cool air for the next 4 years either..

On the bright side, I did find someone that will be out in the morning. Why does it always seem that whatever breaks it is always on a Friday afternoon. Another ray of sunshine is that it is not a 4 day weekend.

I remember growing up in a town called West Seneca. It is a suburb of Buffalo, New York. Summers were NOTHING like Houston. However, there were more than a few 90 plus degree days / nights. Those warm summer nights>>NO A/C and only open windows, found sweat running thru my chest hairs and my sheets soaked with sweat by morning! But I never really knew the difference... Now I enjoy the comforts of A/C and ceiling fans! However, the HEAT never seems to go out in the winter>>>but whenever the A/C goes out, it is always at an inopportune time! YUKK.... I am getting very, very soft in my old age!

I’m just retiring from welding, I worked yesterday on a rare big job. I’m stiff and sore after a hot-wear the jacket project under a boat. I’m not as heat resistant as I used to be. I’m putting the jacket in the freezer between welding sessions, but damn it’s hot here.

I kinda miss open windows at night. I enjoyed the sound of crickets or a light breeze blowing. The other benefit was that it alerted me to any coon activity happening on the yard. There'd be nights where an hour after going to bed I'd hear squawking outside. Close window, put pants on sometimes, grab the Kel-Tec, and take care of "bidness"

Grew up in central PA. We had our share of 100* and 90+ humidity.
We had two powerful window fans. As it cooled down in the evening, we ran those on exhaust until we went to bed. Then, turned them on intake - very cool. Noisy, but cool.
The problem here is that about daylight in the morning it will be about 83 degrees. Right now, 9:59 PM, it is 87 and 61% humidity. It just doesn't cool down at night.

I have lived in arizona my whole life. My grandpa moved here in 1938. I have never gotten used to the summers here. I can deal with 90 but higher sucks. The whinters here in the desert you dont really even need a jacket.
I spent two years just west of Scottsdale. I just loved the winters! Summer wasn't bad until it got to 100. It's a dry heat, but 115 is just HOT.

I remember not having AC until I was about 6. Then we had 1 window unit. Parents built a house then and had heatpump in it. It stayed 70 all year long. Spent the summers at my grandparents who didn't have AC. Box fans and windows open in summer. They had a stocker coal stove we feed in the winter time. Man did it get warm! Had to open the window in the winter.
I never was one for heat! Give me 40 degree and I love it. Above 75 and 80% humidity, I'm so cool I just ccondensate!!
When I got married the our house didn't have AC. Just wall board heaters. We got married in April, we did some remodeling before we got married and removed all the heaters. That April for half the month it was like 60 degrees and no heart in the house, plan was to install a heatpump. My wife about froze first 2 weeks we where married. Money was tight and we didn't get AC installed until late fall. I about died 3 times that summer, it was so hot! I would take cold showers to cool off.
Install heatpump myself that falk. Now during the day it is 72 and wt night 68. I still melt outside in the summer time. 90 plus right now with 80% humidity! I used to work for a living and did ok. Now office job and AC all the time. It would kill me to have to do out side work in the summer time now.

Unit has went out a few times but my background had taught me to work on electrical things myself and I have been able to fix it in just a few short hours. Having a friend that is in the business and had parts on hand at all hours of the night helps alot!

I too grew up without A/C in western PA. We had our fair share of hot and humid days.

However, I guess you can't miss what you never had so at least in those days, we just adapted to it.

But now, at my advanced age, the high dew points really bother me so I'm grateful to have A/C.

All is right with the world (my little world at least) again. Found someone, late yesterday, that would come out this morning. He arrived at 0830. Fortunately, it was just a starting condenser. Ten minutes and he was getting back in the truck to leave. My a$$ pocket is $300 lighter, but worth every penny. Could have been much worse.

Now if I can just get my wife to settle down. It is my fault the A/C went out.

Yesterday it said 107 in the shade under my shop porch and 106 in the shade on my wife's thermostat. Forecast last night was at least 10 more straight days of 100+.
Yup, it's been and will continue to be a hot one here in Texas. We haven't had a decent rain in South Texas since Thanksgiving of last year and have been dancing, praying or whatever for a nice tropical depression to mosey up the Rio Grande. Wildlife, cattle and stock ponds are all suffering.
