Back to my Model 7 308

Rifle was a Remington model 7 action trued, bolt handle has been lapped in, moved forward .037" and tig welded by Dan Armstrong, who did a great job. The barrel is a 20" Broughton, 1:12, 5C, 1.200 to .630 at the muzzle. It is wearing a Harrolds muzzle brake. The chamber was cut with a 95 Palma reamer. The stock is factory tupperware that has been pillar bedded and the lug glassed in. The trigger is a Jewell set at 1 lb.

Today I decided I would try something new:

Clean barrel before, test started after two foulers.

Changes and new to this rifles testing:

Removed the Leupold Rings and 2.5 X 8 VXIII.

Replaced them with picatiny rail, picatiny rings and 6.5 X 20 X 42 Leupold.

New Winchester 308 brass.

New CCI BR2 Primers

New bullets Berger 155VLD (5) seated .003 off the lands. (5) seated into the lands.

Groups shot with 46.0 grains of Varget, 46.0 grains of W-748, and 46.0 grains of H4895.

The bullets sprayed all over the targets.

The rings and bases were double checked.

I changed the scope out with a Sightron III 24X.

The test was run a second time.

This time I included 150 Scirocco II and 150 Accubonds.

Hands down the Accubonds shot the best with a .5 or less group.

The Nosler Partitions I shoot earlier also shot well very close to the Accubonds.

I have also tried the Barnes 130 and 150 Tipped Tripple shocks which in this gun did not shoot as well as the Accubond or Scirocco.

I may test some 168 grain bullets next.

I almost have the same rig only I replaced the tupperwear stock with one of remington's laminated wood stocks, mine has a 20" Kreiger on it. It will shoot nosler accubonds in a 1/2" at 100 and will do better with match bullets of choice.Mine really likes Varget. I was told by my smith that the tupperwear stock is not ridged enough to support the bedding. You can purchase the laminated stock directly from Remington.I love this rig for Pa deer hunting.

Hey do you think the 155s move to fast to stabilize in a 20" with a 1-12" twist? I would like to see the same setup but a 1-10" or the famous 1-11.25". Just a thought. Now that I think about it should have worked hmmm..... I don't know. I am just snooping around for 308 loads to try in my DPMS LR-308 24" 1-10"tw. thanks ...........EagleI

Nat, my 12 twist loves the 155 Scenar. I think theres a little more berring surface with the Scenar than with the Berger.
