After two weeks in Alaska to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary and ten days in OH to visit with our Son, Daughter-in-Law and two granddaughters, I finally got the chance to head out to the farm.
I saw four hogs, shot at three and hit two. Saw the first one after about ten minutes of glassing, the second one popped up about twenty minutes later. The third one walked off into a hedgerow at around 200 yards and the last one popped up not that far from the second.
Missed the first one at 144 yards with the Marlin 17HMR because of the left to right breeze I did not perceive across the field and he ran away.
The second was on the side of a hill about at 180 yards and I got him with a through and through in the neck using my Savage in 22-250. You can just see his hole in the lower portion of the second photo.
The last one was in some tall grass at 135 yards. Had to wait until he stood up before I could pull the trigger on the Savage. Again, the wind drew the shot off just a hair to the right as indicated by the spine shot in the neck.
It was good to get back out after being away for nearly a month.
