AZ Palma Championship, Final Scores + Another New Record

12/6 Update: Final scores posted in Reply #6 below...

Day 1 of the AZ state palma championship today. Not many F-class competitors. :-[ But David Gosnell drove down to join us and Nancy is shooting in F-TR :) Conditions were quite mild. I've been testing the 7mm 195s and they seem to shoot just as tight as the 180s: excellent vertical at 1,000 yards.

Day 2 scores added below.

Re: AZ Palma Championship, Day 1

good to know Scott on the 195's. Those are some good X counts!

I can't wait to finally do a good full blown testing on the 195s once I get my new barrel.

Re: AZ Palma Championship, Day 1

Day 2 Scores. Conditions were much more challenging today: 15+ winds from the north at 800, 10-15mph switches at 900, 5-10mph at 1,000 but constantly changing.

Scott, good shooting. You guys are neck to neck. Watch out for ninja! Ninja smoke has been deployed and he's gonna creep up!

Where's the rest of the Phoenix crew?

Re: AZ Palma Championship, Day 1

Only 2 guys in open class and I'm on the edge of my seat, great match!! I guess we only need the right 2 guys in this match. Regardless of the outcome you both are putting on a show of great skills.

AZ Palma Championship, Final Scores

Things are all finished and the results are posted below. Sunday was fairly challenging and scores reflect that. The last relay of the day , in particular, turned quite nasty. The 2nd-to-last relay finished up in gentle 2-4mph winds, but the winds almost instantly picked up to 15mph as soon as prep time was announced for the final 15-shot string. David and I were shooting and it was quite a way to finish. We were up to about 7 minutes of wind at the peak with the F-Open rigs. Sling shooters were over 10 minutes and scores took a plunge for those on this relay....it was awesome! ;D

The women's F-TR Palma record was broken three times this weekend. Christine started things out on Friday besting the existing record by 1 point with a 441. Today, Christine improved on her score with a 443. But Nancy Tompkins would have none of that and shot a stellar 444 in tricky conditions. Way to go Nancy!

Congrats to local Mike Kelly on his win in the sling division. He shot with a 223 REM and 90 VLDs on Saturday...and performed exceptionally. As mentioned, the winds were up today and the top wind readers took the day.

I want to thank Dave Gosnell for making the trip and turning the f-open match into a real horse race. He shot impressively all weekend, but especially that last relay in difficult winds.

Congratts Scott and Christine, way to go. I don't know 2 people that put more time and effort ( and have 3 young sharpshooters ) that you have to mentor also, in this sport. Well deserved.
