Austin Police officer is my new hero

This officer made a one-hand, center-mass handgun shot at 312 feet while holding two horses with the other hand. Don't mess with a Texas cop! The man is an inspiration to firearms enthusiasts, police officers and citizens, everywhere. :) [br]

After I got out of the Academy in '84, I started really practicing with my Python in earnest. I was at the Academy range one morning and a guy I never seen before brought a black weapons bag out with several pistols in there with the attendant ammunition. He placed a target on the holder and promptly ran it out 25 yards. He grabbed his 45ACP, loaded it and shot, 1 hand, in rapid form. I was thinking "This guy will be lucky if he even hit the target one time"! When he brought it back, I was astounded. ALL the shots were in "center mass" and most were in the "X" portion of the center mass portion of the target. I then said to myself, THIS is a dangerous man with a pistol! I am certainly glad he is on "OUR SIDE"!! He proceeded to do similar shooting with several pistols. He packed up and went about his business. WOW! It was a sight I had never seen before or since!

I wonder if the community is going to stage demonstrations related to this incident. He was a cop doing what he had to stop a maniac. The community I live in would be proud of a cop for such performance. This cop should be given a high commendation for handling something above the call of duty such as this. We all owe the cops a debt of gratitude for doing a job that I couldn't or most of us. All we ever hear is the negatives about our police , why don't they cover storys like this .

Jonberman, I agree with you, but most people don't realize how good of a shot this was. Most think a gun is point and shoot at any distance.

That was a "Bob Munden" shot! I am so glad he got the BG however is it repeatable? I used to shoot a lot of handgun and even have a 23 yard range(handles up to .44 Mag.) in my basement along with a Wife that allows me to use it! Using two hands I would try it, one hand from a Horse! I tip my hat to the Man. ;)

Depending on the bullet weight, the drop at 100 yards is between 8 and 13 inches, so the officer must have known this and aimed at the perp's head. Nonetheless, a shot to be proud of!

Over 40 years ago I used to shoot with a retired marine who had an accurized Colt 45, while I had a Gold Cup Match 45. He used to shoot gallon cans at 100 yards and never missed, I used to hit 50% of the time. All of this while sitting and resting our hands on a bag. (For some reason I could not shoot well if I rested the pistol on the bag.)

But as the officer in question did, to shoot while holding the S&W .40 with ONE HAND, while holding the reins of his horse with the other hand, is incredible.
