ATN scopes?

I`ve been looking around for a scope in my realistic price range for my 7RM tac-comp rifle project and I`m really interested in the ATN 8x32x75 day scope they got. The thing is, I can`t find any type of review or testimonies of how good-bad they are anywhere I`ve looked on the internet. Has anybody here at this sight used one or have any info they could share about this scope. I`de be happy just to know how much "up" they got.

Never heard a good thing about there day scopes. Stay away from them. Sightrons are about the best scopes out there for the money. The clarity and tracking are all that is needed for shooting out to 1k and beyond. I use nightforce and sightron scopes and never feel at a disadvantage with the sightron. Don't buy a ATN. Any name brand quality scope leupold nightforce sightron bushnell elite 4200 ect are a good investment.

As mentioned above, stay away from ATN.

Sightron and Bushnell elite series are good. Also give Weaver a good look. There "T" series scopes track better than most Leupolds. There "V" series are the same scope with variable power. You will probably need a 20-30MOA base with any of these scopes to get out to 1K.

Thanks for the advice, I guess if nobodys got much good to say about them they can`t be much good. Just for the record though, does anybody know what`s wrong with them ???

thanx for all the good info, I decieded not to try one out although I did see some good deals on `em. I`m just gona save up for a NXS scope and not mess with lower end stuff.:thumb:

I can actually help you with this one as I did own a large ATN day scope. All I can say is that they are dreadful scopes. The glass quality is probably the worst I have ever looked through, there is a yellow tinge. They are very, very dim. The scopes are also very heavy for what they are and the zeroing is done by actually moving the cross hairs off of centre. In other word when you look through the scope the cross hair are not in the middle of the image, if that makes sense. You won't get any replies from their customer service centre. Needless to say I sold mine. Probably one of the worst scope on the market today ....

Watch out for Weaver. The latest reports indicate that quality control is slipping and that customer service may be erratic since they were bought by Meade. There are several threads dealing with the problem on this forum.

Also, I don't think that the Weaver "V" series scopes are the same scopes as the "T" series but with variable power. IIRC, the "V" series scopes do not have the Micro-Trac adjustment mechanism that is featured on the "T" series. The Micro-Trac adjustments are one of the main reasons that the Weaver T has been so popular as a low cost benchrest scope. Most folks are switching to Sightron because of Weavers recent quality problems, but just like anything else, YMMV.

Patchhound, if you can manage to get a hold of the NXS Nightforce, you will not regret it. I've owned a lot of different scope brands from Tasco to Leupold and everything in between almost. I have never had any scope that I thought was as good as the NXS. I have two 12-42s with the DD reticle and I enjoy using them. I still have a few Leupolds and they are good scopes, especially the Mark 4s and the Competition models. Just an opinion and you know what they all say about opinions. Thanks, Bill

Good decision to avoid the ATN's. All I have ever heard about them was: Another Tactical Nightmare.

You are right. Life is too short to shoot cheap glass.

I can remember when I wrote this thread about a year ago, I was close to ordering an ATN scope and thought it might be smart to ask around a bit-turns out to have been a good move, I did`nt get one. Thanks everybody for the heads up!

patchhound.

p.s. Uncle Sam`s gonna get me a Nightforce in Feb.:D
