Athlon Scopes

i have an ares btr 4.5-27 mil, i like it, the glass is clear, tracks well. everyone that has looked through it liked it.
doesnt hurt i paid half price

I have a Gen 1 Midas BTR and Ares BTR that are IMO, comparable to Sightron SIII series scopes. The turret feel isn't as sharp as a Sightron, but the optical quality is on par and the reticle choices are far better than Sightron.
Tracking has been very good with mine, and having a zero stop is also a big plus if you use it.

I also have a Gen 1 Cronus. For what I paid for this scope when they sold them off at a big discount when the Gen 2 Cronus came out, It has been the best scope deal that I've ever bought. While it isn't "As Good" in all categories as my S&B PMII, Nightforce ATACR, IOR Recon, or Revic PMR428, it does a good job hanging with them.

Athlon does a very good job with these series of optics, I don't know about any of the lower cost Athlons.

I put one on a open country coyote rifle 2-12x40mm w/ballistic reticle. I like it a lot, adustments are spot on and it is nice and clear. So far it has just been range time, I'll start coyote hunting next week. My only complaint is that the scope could use a dot on the junction of the crosshairs like the ranging dots, but thats just me as I would like the center dot for close in stuff on 2x, but most would complain the it wouldn't have a fine enough reticle for longer range.

I had a 2-10x40mm Athlon on the rifle earlier and killed coyotes with it but the turrets were really tall and got in the way, the 2-12 has low capped turrets which works much better for me on a hunting rifle.

What model?
Don't remember which model. The Athlon website has scopes with too many different strange names. Midway has some very good discounted prices on a couple models. Strongly discontinued versions of current scopes with strange names? Midway had a great deal on the Sightron SIII a few months back and it's just an excellent scope. Now they have some equally discounted 8-34 FFP Athlons but I'm not familiar with them.

I had an Gen 1 Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50 for a while. It was purchased to set up a .22lr rifle for night time practical rimfire rifle matches that my club run on a monthly basis. Ranges vary from 15 yards to 200 yards (metres in fact) and include steel swingers, shotgun clays and paper targets on turning mechanisms with timers. My requirements were at least 24x magnification, illuminated reticle, external turrets and FFP. The Argos fit all those requirements and at the time was about $750 (Australian). To be fair it wasn't a bad scope but the glass quality wasn't wonderful and the turrets were a little "vague" when rapidly adjusting. The parallax was also a little off in that it wasn't parallax free when the image was clearly focussed. If I carefully set the parallax the image was just ever so slightly blurred. Rifle now wears an illuminated Nightforce SHV which was twice the price but in my opinion worth it. I would not purchase another Athlon Argos BTR Gen 1 scope. I have not yet seen the Gen 2 version but a mate is bringing one around on Sunday for me to mount on his Tikka T1X and I'll have a good look through it. Apparently the main improvement is the turrets.

My Cronus is made in Japan. I believe it's the only model that is. Great scope for the money. Frankly, it's good enough that if I would have been able to look through it before I spent 2x on my nightforces, I probably would have just bought a couple more Cronus scopes. I also shot behind a friends Midas-tac. I would not have a problem using that scope either.

Check out Cameraland. They have some discounts going on through 10-25 on certain models.
