Athlon Heras 15x60x56 question

I got one a few months ago as a replacement for an Athlon Argos 10-40X56 Gen 2 BTR. I am very happy with it. It is significantly clearer than the Argos all they way up to 60X, while the Argos deteriorated markedly past 32X. As you would expect with a scope in this price range, there is some CA at the edges and eye relief is less forgiving at higher magnification. However, it is a bargain for what it costs and has nice positive reticle adjustment knobs and passed my box test. The reticle is a bit hard to see in bright light and it is big and heavy. This is not a problem for me as I use it for benchrest shooting.

We just put two of the ARES 15-60 in service
So far we are loving them! We bought from Mike at Panther Hollow--stand up guy Great price--fast ship--all around solid seller. We looked through the Heres and it looked pretty darn good--I just had in mind that I wanted an illuminated reticle --it just ill7uminates the dot only and with my replacement lens it gives a halo so I would have been just as well off with the Heres--Mike at Panther Hollow has extensive experience with both give him a call for an honest review under match conditions--he shoots 600 all the time
The eye box is not Sightron good but it is doable

I just started using mine for 300 yd benchrest and great value for money . My only complaint is i wish it had target dot....panther creek is where to buy for sure.

Just wondering if you guy think the ares is worth the extra money. Talked to Panther hollow last night. Just not sure which one to go with.

I always go for the most clarity for the money. I was told that they are coming out with a improved version of the Ares and that is why they are out of stock everywhere. I have been holding out for the new version for a while now.

Good to know

I have an Ares like the glass, clarity on par with the Weaver 46X I use on all my rifles. however, I can't get use to the extra horizontal hash marks. I bought it because of the dot which is small almost as small as the Weaver's. I am going to end up selling it, but only because of the confusion I am having with the extra hash marks.

I emailed Athlon and they said that a new batch was due the end of June or beginning
of July. Sold out everywhere.
Didn't hear anything about an updated version. Haven't heard of any problems.
Hope the price doesn't go up.

I got the info from a dealer that was blowing out his remaining stock in anticipation of the new version. It's all hearsay at this point and I have no idea if it is true or not, but I am going to wait and see.
