at the range...

This thread started talking about nice mild day with no rain or wind.

How many go out and shoot even if there are winds at 7-10 mph, rain, and not so warm conditions????

I figure I need some experience coping with the wind so out I go again today on a typical fall NW day. Rain, Wind, and 50 degrees. I don't care, it's still refreshing.

Restful day at range

Amlevin,
Talk about a nice day, a couple of Mondays ago I had to call a cease fire five times during the day due to Wild Turkeys walking out at 75 yard line. The gunfire did not upset them at all. Got to sit and watch them amble across the range and into the trees, they would pass back by about every hour and a half. We also have a resident momma Red Fox that decides to walk across the firing line every few days, again we cease fire and let her do her thing.

Wind 7 to 10mph? Where do you live to get such low wind speeds? I hardly ever get those wind speeds up here. Most of the time it is 10+mph. It is almost more comforting to shoot in the wind.

If you get out and shoot on those days where the wind is 20-30+mph then when it is 10 it is almost easy

I agree that 7-10 mph doesn't seem like much but the range I spend a lot of time on is built so that winds behave like they're in a blender or food processer. Wing shows from the left, you pull your trigger, and the wind had instantly changed to the right.

In a way I'd love to shoot out on the plains where the wind is just a constant 15-20 mph from a single direction. That "swirly stuff" drives me wild.

Our local range is within 5 mi of a wind turbine site, so its allmost allways
windy
The flags on the 1000 Yard range can go from slack to 3 oc to 9 oc at he same time and with one fishtailing in between.

I have seen days on the 500 m range where you had to hold off the rams
to make a hit. The guys that come out and shoot, wind or not do well.
The fair weather shooters, not so well, so it pays to go to the range
on windy days also.
