ASSA 2020 National Championship - COVID-19 Update

Fellow Competitors:

Since our last update, there have been many developments across the United States due to the continued impact of the COVID-19 virus.

ASSA has been monitoring the information being provided by multiple official government sources and individual state actions currently in process to reopen some businesses and reduce travel restrictions.

As a significant portion of participants journey outside of their home state for the championships, ASSA is reviewing Ohio's current directives on travel, which will have the greatest impact on our ability to conduct the match. The following is the OHIO directive issued on 03 April that is to be in effect until 01 May (at which time it is likely to be modified according to the latest COVID-19 data). Two (2) key points are highlighted by ASSA in red text.

COVID-19 Guidance on Ohio Travel
Protecting Against COVID-19

In accordance with the Stay At Home Order Extension that be in effect from April 7 through May 1 at 11:59 p.m. by Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Amy Acton, M.D., MPH under the direction of Governor Mike DeWine, issued the following is guidance regarding prohibited and permitted travel in and out of Ohio.

  • Travel is permitted into and out of Ohio to maintain essential businesses and operations and minimum basic operations.
  • Persons entering the state with the intent to stay are asked to self-quarantine for 14 days.
    • This does not apply to persons who as part of their normal life live in one state and work or gain essential services in another state. For example, this does not apply to healthcare workers, public health workers, public safety workers, transportation workers, and designated essential workers.
    • Individuals traveling into and out of Ohio for essential reasons—such as caring for elderly, persons with disabilities, or other vulnerable persons, and transporting children pursuant to a custody agreement—do not need to self-quarantine. If they display COVID-19 symptoms they should self-isolate. More information on essential travel is available in the Stay At Home Order at :
  • The following individuals shall not enter the state unless they are doing so under medical orders for the purposes of medical care, are being transported by Emergency Medical Services, are driving or being driven directly to a medical provider for purposes of initial care, or are a permanent resident of Ohio:
    • Those who have tested positive for COVID-19
    • Those who are presumptively diagnosed with COVID-19
    • Anyone exhibiting symptoms identified in the screening guidance available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Ohio Department of Health.
Pending additional updates, ASSA is still planning on conducting our championships as scheduled. As previously outlined, it is up to each individual to evaluate their personal situation regarding travel and any associated risks due to COVID-19. Your heath and safety are paramount.

ASSA will continue to provide updates as additional information on COVID-19 and it's impact on travel and public health becomes available. As a reminder, please be prudent when making any travel reservations at this time as companies have differing policies on cancellations and/or modifications.

Best Regards,

ASSA
