ASSA 2020 Championship new Location and Schedule

ASSA Championship Location and Schedule
Fellow Competitors:
As you are well aware, the 2020 outdoor smallbore season has been in constant upheaval due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, which has resulted in the cancellation of the majority of competitions at local, state and national levels.

For the past several weeks, ASSA has been closely monitoring the latest information on the COVID-19 impact, modifications to state and federal health recommendations and the recent reopening of facilities and businesses across multiple states.

In parallel to monitoring COVID-19, ASSA has also been working with The Cardinal Center to address an issue that directly impacts our ability to conduct match operations on site which included registration, scoring and display of fired targets.

As a result, we will need to relocate the 2020 ASSA National Smallbore Championships to the Chief Wa -Ke'-De range in Bristol, IN.

This has NOT been a decision that was taken lightly. We have had lengthy discussions to evaluate all options and this is, at this time, the best path forward to conduct our 2020 championship.

In order to also mitigate the COVID-19 impact, the championship dates have also been modified to the following:

  • Friday 24 July - check in / prone & F-SBR practice
  • Saturday 25 July through Tuesday 28 July - prone & F-SBR competition
  • Tuesday 28 July (PM) - prone & F-SBR award ceremony
  • Tuesday 28 July (PM) - 3-position check in & practice
  • Wednesday 29 July - 3-position metallic sight competition
  • Thursday 30 July - 3-position any-sight competition & Award Ceremony (individual)
  • Friday 31 July - 3-position team matches & Award Ceremony (team)
While ASSA has maintained our flexibility to still conduct our championships, it is apparent that each and every individual competitor, coach, parent, spectator and volunteer fully evaluate their own personal heath situation before making any decision to attend.

Along with the challenges of this move, ASSA has been working with both past and new sponsors in support of the match. As we have previously noted, our community of suppliers and sponsors have also been significantly financially impacted and are doing their best to continue their support. We, collectively as competitors, need to also understand their position and continue to support them to the best of our abilities also for they are part of the smallbore community.

For those competitors who have already registered for the championships but cannot attend due to the date/location change, ASSA will provide a full refund of your entry fees upon receipt of your email request.

On behalf of the entire organization, thank you for your understanding and consideration during these unprecedented times. We look forward to seeing you on the range in the near future.

Best Regards,
ASSA

Fellow Competitors,

Registration is currently open for the 2020 ASSA National Smallbore Championships which will be conducted at the Chief Wa-Ke-De range in Bristol, IN.

Prone & F-SBR are from 24-28 July with 3 position events 29-31 July.

For prone and F-SBR, there is an option to participate for 2 days instead of the full four (4) day course of fire. While not eligible for the overall national title, ASSA does award cash prizes for each individual match and daily aggregates.

In addition, for prone there is also the option to participate in the Any-Any class, which allows the use of optics for the entire match. Again, the Any-Any category would not be eligible for the overall national title, ASSA awards cash prizes for each individual match and daily aggregates.

(Note: last year, ASSA awarded in excess of $5,000 CASH at our prone/F-SBR championships - not including donated items from our sponsors!)

Another option is to come and visit for part of the match, meet some of your fellow competitors and get first hand input on the various aspects of the sport. There is NOTHING like first hand experience to augment what may be learned here on line.

For anyone interested in the match, here is a link to the entry portal which also has a link to the overall match program.
