ARRGH! One set back after the other

So I finally figure out the caliber, bullet and action combination for this new build. Then I can't find any brass to get my reamer into production. But a good Samaritan donates a few pieces of brass so I can get my reamer into production. Now when I go to order my custom die from Lee (yes I use collet neck sizer) they tell me they are not accepting any new custom orders until June. ARRGH! Deep breath...patience grass hopper patience.

Fitter, do you merely need to vent (which I totally get), or might you wish to remind us what you're building, in case some of us might be able to help you obtain dies, karma, etc. as you require? ;)

There are many other custom die builders.
www.spencerdieandtool.com is who I use.

What caliber are you building?

Good luck.

Sorry. It's a 7mm RSAUM in a long action, its not a custom wildcat or anything. I know I could buy factory bushing neck sizing dies from all major manufacturers but I really like the Lee Collet dies. I feel they do a great job with runout. And I don't really want to buy a neck bushing die just to seat my dummy rounds.

It's just frustrating because I won't be able to put my dummy rounds together to get the reamer into production until some time this summer.

Thanks

You don't need a dummy round. The 7 RSAUM has been around long enough that Dave Kiff will tell you what you need as far as freebore.

What grain bullet are you going to shoot out of it?

I'm using the Berger 180 gr Hybrid and I'm seating it very long at a very specific non standard COAL.

I'm using JGS.

Thanks

Current list price for Lee collet neck sizer AND seater......$29. Current list price for ONE nitride neck bushing....$37 (Redding catalog). My children will inherit a fortune in bushings. Even at Midway, last week I paid $50 for 2 bushings!

This is going to have to be a custom Lee collet which is only $60 but still 3X normal price.

Fitter, A custom LCD can sometimes be machined from an LCD similar in size. I've got a 6.5X47L machined from a 6.5X55 swe LCD. cost was $25.00 for machining. Maybe an inquiry @ "gun project ques. & basic gunsmithing" would yield a competent machinist to do a conversion for you?? I lost the email address for the machinist I used. Other wise I'd have been happy to pass it along. I do have his home address if you're interested............... I feel your pain ;)

I hear ya. My father tried to order a 6.5 Grendel barrel from Alexandar Arms back in JUne/July 2012. Still waiting.

Patience is key, and 7RSAUM is certainly worth waiting for. Are you planning on shooting Berger's 180VLDs? You might want to
check your throat length to make sure you have some room. They might like as much as a 40 thou jump, but probably less.

Berger 180 Hybrids. It's a completely new build from scratch and in a long action.

Sounds like you've got it handled already. My father built a 7RSAUM AR-10 and found later that the throat was cut a little short, so a hand reamer was needed. And STILL got that done before the 6.5 Grendel barrel... heh, if waiting is a measure of quality, this will be the best barrel ever!

I'm still trying to figure out why it is taking Lee and others so long to produce dies. Is their production process archaic? Midway USA is showing that 9MM dies will not be available until May 2013. Even if this event that we are seeing caught them flat footed ... does it really take that long for them to ramp up and get production going?

I wish some of the hunting, shooting, or reloading magazines would start aksing the questions. Not only of the die companies but the ammo companies. Why does it take so long to ramp up production.

They run the high-volume stuff. Taking down and setting up the line to run other products takes time. They run what will sell the most, the soonest. Back orders!

Not sure but this is a custom die not one of there standard calibers. Maybe they are backed up with custom orders? What I don't quite understand is that I ordered a custom mandrel for a die last week and they took that order!?
