Armalite AR15 powder

Looking for recomendation on powder for my 20" armalite ar15. I know I need a faster powder but I'm looking for something that will meter good through my redding measure. I don't want to weigh every charge. I have an unopened pound of 8208xbr for my 204 ive never tried, but was thinking maybe blc2, Tac, or Arcomp.

All of those powders will work fine in your rifle. Take a look at the 223 cartridge guide on here. There is a Sierra guide for gas guns as well as bolt actions. They also have favorite loads from contributing shooters.

Benchmark or H322. You can use Win 748, but it's temperature-sensitive. Yeah, Ball C2, H335 are options, but I haven't used them. Accurate 2460 is good, also temp-sensitive ball powder. I'd just pick a powder I like, and throw it. You're not doing benchrest anyway, with a 20" AR15, so thrown charges should be GTG out to 300 yards.

After a quick check, that cartridge guide is a bit dated. It has BL-C2 and Tac, but 8208 and arcomp are not listed. Might have to try their websites for good starting loads.

Yea it is a bit dated. I just don't want to batter my bolt unnecessarily. No need to when there are plenty of fast powders avaliable.

I run TAC with my m4 16inch barrel.. Meters well altho I trickle up rifle loads.. There is more accurate powders i guess. It really depends on what bullet weight and what you want at the end of the day. They have a free download of their load data on their webpage..

Alot of people use it to try and recreate m193 but I don't and if you are wanting to , I suggest useing only new brass.. Start low and work up..

Nope just plunking 300yds and under on steel with occasional varmint. Gonna be hornady 55gr sp. Grafs had 500 for $54 shipped after NRA roundup. Most FMJs are 4ish before shipping.

I just load to upper .223 specs for that. I also do not need to shoot hot loads at paper.. Easy on both the brass and the gun.. I use only iron sights so accuracy is only gonna be so great..

Yea I'm with you on the hot loads. Just something for paper and varmints. Not looking to recreate 855 or 193s. As long as I have the velocity to expand those SPs, that's all I'm looking for. Critters and steel won't know the difference if I'm at max velocity or not.

I prefer powders on the faster end of the spectrum for 55 gr or lighter bullets. Reloder 7 is my favorite powder with that bullet but there are a ton of powders that will give good results

I get sub minute from thrown charges of 8208 out of my service rifle.
25gr of 335 under a 55gr bullet is pretty much the standard plinking load. Set up the progressive with case and bullet feeder and get pulling!

Since im on vacation, I may snoop around and see what I can find. Several places here around myrtle Beach and several on my way back home that got powder. Bass pro about 10min away but they are a little on the steep side.

What's wrong with BL-C2? :p
Nuttun' wrong with it, just pointing out the guide didn't have any of the newer powders. Since Ball-C2 works well in 223 and 308, I've got my AR 10's and 15's covered.

One thing the guide did mention, was that the 223 is easy to load for. there are dozens of midrange powders, you can usually pick any one and get a decent load out of it without beating up your rifle.
