Armalite AR-10T

Purchased my first AR-10 this past winter. Barrel break in was minimal but the rifle did not shoot as the manufacturer quoted, Today i took the barrel off for replacement, I was shocked to see that it took 200Ft# to remove. Now I know why it wouldn't shoot. 200Ft# could destroy the threads. I will reinstall and torque to the proper Ft# then recheck accuracy.

Check your Armalites

Barrel torque isn't the only thing wrong with armalites. Mine was ordered with a custom Lothar-Wather barrel, which would not keep shots on a 12" target at 100. I sent it back to armalite and they polished the feed ramps and reglued the forend. when I got it back, it still wouldn 't shoot. When I was cleaning the barrel to send it back again, I put a double patch on the jag, which made it very tight. About every 3" or so there would be a loose spot in the barrel. Seems Armalite got a batch of bad barrels, but they didn't contain them all.

That should be the end of the story, they put on a new stainless barrel and sent it back to me again. I broke the barrel in and then shoot for group. At least I could hit the target, but my best group of 2.5" wasn't close to what I would consider target grade. After arguing with Armalite over the phone, I finally said the hell with it. I cut the barrel off at 18", threaded it for a muzzle break, put on some BUIS's and shoot it in Heavy metal 3 gun. If I want a 308 to shoot right, I'll buy a GAP-10 or stick to a bolt gun.

Sorry that this doesn't help, but at least you aren't the only one in the same boat.

I ordered a 10T upper and broke it in. It barely shoots 1.5 moa with FGMM. There are weird rough spots inside the barrel that I can feel when I run the cleaning rod through it. It was horrible at first, but smoothed out a fair amount after break in. I can still feel it, and the gun should shoot better than it does. I wish I had a bore scope to look inside. I have an old 16" upper that can almost shoot circles around it. Very disappointed. If it doesn't get better, I will probably replace it.

Anyone know where I could get, or who makes a drop in 6.5 x 47 for an AR10 (non-DPMS style)

I've made quite a few barrels for AR-10's (and DPMS pattern). One of them was in a 6X47 Lapua that shot very well, but due to the lug ways on the barrel extension wouldn't feed the VLD bullets at all. One thing I've done to every upper I've built is re-face the upper receiver. It takes out any wobble and give a perfectly flat, perpendicular surface for the barrel extension to bear on. Also I use BAT machined extensions as the Armalite factory extensions are almost never square and bear on about 1/4 of the face against the barrel shoulder. BAT extensions are ALWAYS true.

Good info, thanks. Still going to try a little harder with the .308 barrel for now, but I believe a 6 or 6.5x47 AR is in my near future either way.

I had an ArmaLite AR-10 t with a Lothar Walther Barrel. At the time, it was most accurate AR rifle I'd ever owned. 1/2" groups w FGMM 168's and it would make bug hole groups with Nosler 125 ballistic tips. I had a buddy that bought it off of me for a rather nice profit during a financial crisis. He still has it and I asked for right of first refusal if he ever wants to get rid of it Now I have an AR-10T ArmaLite in 243 with the 26" Mike Rock Barrel, tt is also a screamer. Geisselle HSM trigger helps. So, I'm batting a thousand with ArmaLite.

I've had an armalite ar-10T for several years now. I've tried a lot of different loads in it and on a good day it will hold an moa at 100 shooting 3 shot groups with a upgraded trigger and a 32 power nightforce and loaded to clip length. On a regular day it is a 1.5 moa 100 yard gun. It does really well with stretched out Bergers ahead of varget but what good is a single shot semi automatic. Ive always been rather disappointed with it and have thought about going to a krieger or shilen select match barrel. Its sad but my fathers factory bull barrel dpms will outshoot my 10T with the little work he has put into it. I love the fit and finnish but think it should shoot better

I can shoot my AR-15 better than I can my AR-10. The AR-15 is a Stag, the AR - 10 is an Armalite. But I'd be lying to myself if I did not admit that a 7.62x51 is an all-together different game than a 5.56 x 45.

It's not a matter of barrels for me and my rifles. It's recoil.

Funny. The United States military came to the same conclusion.

Flame suit on. Enjoy.
