Are there still any 14 caliber shooters on here???

Is anyone on here having decent results with their chronograph on 14 caliber high speed rounds?

I wasted a good portion of my range time yesterday struggling to get readings. After spending all the time it takes to set it up with the infrared kit and muzzle blast baffles and then have it sit there with a blank screen drives me crazy.

As soon as I tried to run my 14 calibers over 4600 fps it would start missing shots. The highest I could even get was 4760 fps. Swapped start and stop gates, swapped the infrared panels, tried backlighting, top lighting, low passes over the sensors, high passes. The bullets are even coated which should in theory help.

As hard as it is for me to get range time in these days the last thing I want to do is waste it trying to get a chronograph to read shot strings.

Curious... has a 14 ever been shot over a MagnetoSpeed style sensor?

Another possible work around, would require the use of one or more eTargets.
The speed values at the target(s) could be used to back into the muzzle velocity.

Woodchk, do you have any problems with the MagnetoSpeed V3 reliably reading the 14 caliber bullets? Does it pick up both the light weight and heavy weight bullets? Any problems reading up to the 5000 fps range?

Shoot a 14 Walker Hornet. I found you had to try different lighting conditions but it was spotty.
No more chronograph, I'll see if Labradar picks up 15 grainers.

My magnetospeed has picked up 15 grain .17 cal bullets at 5075fps.

Yep... MagnetoSpeed reads 17 cal 15.5 gr Hornaday bullets mine were 4850 to 4900 fps area, with the chosen powder, it didn't miss any shots.
Read labRadar website and reviews ...3900 fps max speed and over .22 caliber & larger ...for best results.
Doesn't appear to be the chronograph for fast calibers and especially small calibers, below .22..the bases of the bullet too tiny for radar waves to detect & bounce back....the manufacturer says.

It has more to do with the speed being too high than the caliber.

My LabRadar has no problem with 40 grain 20 cals that stay below 4000 and it also works fine on the smaller 17s too.
You just can't get it to work up above 4000.

I think it would be a big help in pushing the 14 calibers to its max speed. I used to do a lot of 17 caliber shooting and should be able to match the data up for the 14's.

.17 Tactical 15.5 Hornady ntx Lapua brass and Benchmark powder. 5075 fps was just starting to show pressure signs.
