Are mall tumblers created equal ?

One's high speed the other doesn't appear to be. One has a 3 pound capacity the other is 15. Two different products. Personally I'd go with the bigger one. I started with a rotary tumbler years ago. It cleaned the brass so slowly I ended up selling it and getting a vibratory tumbler. It cleaned much faster. That's what I have been using for the last 25 years.

I still use my Tumbler, but with dry walnut and a spritz of polish. 2 hours later everything is cleaner than new almost. I have a turbo 1200 lyman too. Every now and then I'll dump in a double handfull of 45 ACP brass.

You might want to take a look a t the Frankfort Arsenal version. You can find the entire kit for less than $200 on sale. The biggest difference is that the Frankfort is gear driven and, as a bud who uses one says, the tub has some nice features for convenience when emptying.

I have the Frankfort and it works great. It is very easy to rinse the contents/remove most pins using the tumbler drum and the supplied sieves. It seals well also.

A lot of the "rock" tumblers (similar to the one you linked to from walmar) are a simple cylindrical drum. There is nothing to help agitate the pins and cases inside the drum as it rotates. The Thumlers model B has a (as stated before) larger drum that has flat sides rather than a cylinder. You see this on most other commercial SS tumblers. The flat sides help agitate pins and cases to get a thorough cleaning.

The Frankford Arsenal, Lyman or Thumlers B should work well for you. FWIW, I use the Lyman and can load that sucker up with 500 cases of .223, .243 and 6.5 Lapua and in 3 hours they are shiny bright and ready to go.

The model B red tumbler is a rock tumbler that reloaders use to tumble brass. The FART is designed to be a brass tumbler. There is a world of difference between the two. I mention the red tumbler there.

Here's a video I made for the guys at my range using the FART :p Frankford Arsenal Rotary Tumbler

Its a 2 part.

If using a stainless steal media and water Tumblr to get your cases down to the naked brass, using moly powder and shot to apply a dry lube to the case neck will not be effective. I find that the moly doesn't like to stick to the neck until a case has been fired and there is some carbon on the inside for it to cling to. Needless to say, the expander ball has a rough time moving through the neck without an appropriate amount of lube. This has been the main reason I have not moved to SS media.

What do you guys use to lube your naked case neck after tumbling with stainless steel media?

You can either brush the inside of the necks with powdered graphite, or shoot moly bullets. Both will solve the problem.

Is there A functional difference between the two ?

Does anyone have experience and suggestions for either one ?

Thanks,

If seating uncoated bullets, I use the Imperial dry lube/ceramic balls applicator tub. It works fine for me. With HBN treated bullets I don't use anything in the clean neck.
