Are all forums moderated?

I love this site for all the great shooting info, and all the great people with all their experience but was wondering if there is a forum out there that had less restrictive rules on what a guy can say. I don't want any problems and still want to be here but when more controversial topics come up I tend to break this forums rules. I respect the rules but want to find a place to discuss my views.

I have found out the hard way that controversy makes deletion. If it is politics there are a bunch out there just waiting for you.

Possibly you might consider visiting another website ;D ;D

You may enjoy the gang over on 24 hour campfire.

It irritates me to no end to hear people repeat this sort of thing (and I'm not calling you out specifically jonbearman, just making a general statement).

The moderation that is done on this board has nothing to do with controversy, politics, religion, etc... and *everything* to do with the lack of ability of a minority of users to produce civil discourse. If most of you notice, so-called "controversial" topics stay up for varying lengths of time - sometimes a few hours, sometimes days. It all depends on whether or not the discussion can be maintained at a civil level (hint: it never does) with people making reasoned, cogent points, regardless of which side they are on.

If you want topics like that, then self-moderate.

We got many and varied topics on this forum, many of which generate some effervescence between the persons who reply. Good debate is healthy... As it has been noted on several occasions, "there is more than one way to skin a cat". However, there are times things get a bit testy. If there were ZERO monitoring / "moderation" things may quickly get out of control. Since an "out of control" environment breeds some verbal hostility, it's not a place most of us would want to spend time in. So, we have to allow the moderators to get things BACK UNDER CONTROL so the rest of us can enjoy a great forum.

Soooooo I for one, welcome constant moderation. A civil discourse / debate genders excellent information.. Incivility only creates a hornets nest that I would not want to be part of..

My gosh man! I simply said that I have a hard time staying in the boundaries of the moderators and I wanted to know if there was a place I could discuss my views! It is this forums right to do what they gotta do, I just say it how I see it and that doesn't work here so when it comes to these more heated topics I will respect this site and cover them elsewhere. I will use this forum for shooting advise/data and talk politics and law and anything else that creates heat elsewhere!!!!! Wow. I don't speak politicians language and do the kid glove thing and that don't fly here and that is ok. Simma down now. 24hourcampfire may be the place? I'll see. I Realize that you can be right but just don't say it, scary questions have scary answers. By all means keep it going however ya want to do things here.

I think that the nature of the beast and some legality thrown in dictates that every forum has to have Administrators / Moderators. What is different form one forum to another is what those that own or control the site allow. Most of the dozens of sites that I go to are for specific hobbies / interests etc. I am a moderator on at least 4 sites, 3 of which ONLY allow threads about the subject of the site. Might sound restrictive, but that is what the site is therefore. Plenty of sites specifically for politics or other subjects.

Living in New York City, I get to engage in enough heated political conversations if I just step outside! :o

+1,000 on the Admin/mods!!! This is a great site that I have had the pleasure of meeting great folks and learning a wealth of information. I've seen some threads get waaaay out. Don't waste my time on that crap. Keep up the great work, and thank you!! 8)

If it wasn't for the moderators here, I probably wouldn't bother looking at the site.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't enjoy name calling and other uncivilized behavior.

Sorry OP. I don't know where to send you. Snipers Hide used to be available and seemed tolerant of stuff I wouldn't bother reading.

Sounds like a great idea.
Shooting advise and data I believe is the main purpose of this site

This came about because of the m855 ammo deal. If you read all those that got scrubbed twice, that's what prompted my question. I never thought I crossed a line but?? I never said anything about name calling or taunting but how do you discuss this without getting pissed when people say yeah ban this or that it doesn't affect me bla bla. But yeah I'm a real threat, im so inflammatory, look out for this guy, don't offend. To me it's offensive to not see what is going on. From now on I'll just talk about sunshine and lollipops and not join in on any threads that may be too serious. I learned about the new ban on this site? But messed up by opposing it I guess. perhaps I will comment when they target 6br or 12 gauge ammo. I am just jumping the gun I guess. I'll join in when its air soft only I guess. Sorry for the disturbance and scarring offensive rhetoric.

What makes you think the moderator removed the threads? Have you considered the original poster removed it himself? That is usually the way it works on this site.

I frequent 9 different forums ranging from motorcycles, to guns, to medical topics, and one aspect is clear on every single one of them... you bring in a contravercial topic and tempers WILL rage. There is mature ways to debate and there is immature ways to debate. I have observed a trend that the sites where young adults reign as the majority these are the sites that draw the most vicious and immature bashing/posting (but not limited to just yong adults, I know some Harley forum guys that are just plain stupid and arrogant ). You have to learn to deal with all types of attitudes and tempers. Some are thick skinned, others blow a gasket real quick especially when deroagatory terms are voiced against them. The internet is all about opinions of individuals and just because you do not agree with another members' opinion is not a go ahead to open up a can of verbal bashing. These types of topics will always negitively escillate to a point where positive reading ceases and that's when it's time to lock or deleate the thread. So just relax, stay polite and the forums will be a much nicer place. For the most part, this site generates mature and expert knowledge conversations and I will certainly continue to frequent ;)

Tim, I certainly agree with you.

I like this forum because it is like having family you like in for dinner. There is respect, quality information, real sharing of helpful info and ideas. When people start popping off, I leave, just like I did when my drunk uncle would show up. Not that I did not like him, I just chose not to subject myself to his behavior. I like the moderators and am thankful this is a "place" to learn and not be bashed. I have had enough of loudmouths and braggarts, opinionated people who have to share every thought that crosses their mind, having spent the last 20 years arresting a bunch of them. I like this civilized world and chose to spend time here. Keep up the good work

Being a novice compared to most members here, I appreciate the opportunity to ask questions and not be belittled by asking. So much knowledge is here for the asking. Much of this knowledge I pass on to other shooters who also appreciate this forum. Thanks to everyone here.
