AR308 bolt catch

Had trouble finding a catch that would work with the mags I have (metal, PMag and Hexmag). The followers did not push the catch up far enough and did not engage the catch enough. So, I modified it. A little MIG wire, milling and grinding.

After (didn't take pics with mags) -

Also had to grind a little here because it hit the upper.

I get nice bolt engagement now.

Did you do any hardening after? I'm curious if the heat from the weld will effect durability or if the hardness that mig welding sometimes leaves will be sufficient.

Don’t think it was too hard to begin with. Ran a file across it and it was not “hard”. Guess I’ll find out.
