AR15 Balance Point

I recently installed a 24" heavy barrel on my seldom-used AR. Bored I guess. Anyway, as you can imagine it's pretty front-end heavy. I plan on placing some lead in the buttstock to offset the front. So, at what point do I hold the rifle, while I add weight to bring it to a level point?

Somewhere under the barrel chamber is always a good balance point for any type of rifle, but fulcrum point of front rest placement or bipod attachment point makes a difference too

I have an AR with a HEAVY 28" barrel.
Run it from a bipod and rear bag.
The barrel itself is pretty balanced over the bipod (not the whole rifle).
With a fairly heavy scope and a heavy walled side charging upper I don't really want EXTRA weight hanging under the receiver loading up the pins. The barrel balances itself, the stock adds weight to the back.

Without the bipod the rifle (17 pounds) balances just in front of the mag at the pivot pin.

Lead in the stock balances the rifle and brings the AR up in total weight.
A 3 pound bipod helps with total weight for F-Open.
Just wouldn't want to carry this thing in the field :)

Thanks, guys, I will be looking at a 2 lb. fishing sinker to beat on and try to mold to the buttstock. If it needs that much weight to balance out.

What calibers are your heavy AR's and what kind of measured accuracy are you getting out of them ?

I just bought a used heavy barreled AR in .204 and I waiting to shoot it.
Are there any tricks to shooing a AR off a bench?

I poured and molded the lead slugs for mine, and the wife's AR.
Both 22 Nosler which puts us into F-open against the big guns :(New-Rest.jpg
I put her on a rest with a 2 pound bag rider made from 1.5x3x6, 1/4" steel channel with 1/4x1 aluminum slides.

.223. Don't know yet. I don't know about any tricks for the bench. I honestly don't shoot the AR much at all. This new barrel is an "I am bored" project.
