AR opinions.. opening a can 'o worms..

Have decided to go black,, spotted a Colt 1-9" H-Bar Elite Stainless Bull, full free float.. She kinda caught my eye..
Problems with Colt? Favorites? Issues? Help me out here,, I don't mind if my other guns get jealous.. :o

What vintage? I run a 6920LE lower w/Jewell trigger. The only issue I understand is that the earlier Colt's had a small pin to restrict full auto component swaps. Not really a problem but must be known when purchasing add-ons or replacements.

It's new, tho I don't have model#.. Has the solid butt w/ stash compartment. Flat top, no sights,
about a 8-10" p-rail for a scope. Front handgrip is a smooth aluminum with a couple sling mounts. Not the heavy bull, longer barrel than most, tho seems to handle well, but I'm used to my bolt action bulls... Not real concerned with full auto components, but wondered of cross matching other components and availability. I'm mostly concerned whether the H-Bar barrel is worth bringing home or if I'm going to have to upgrade//?? If that, I'll buy a cheaper lower and build one. I want a gun that's going to shoot straight.. Probably going to go with a Counter Sniper Scope.
Opinions on the piston models coming out, ($$??) or good 'ol DIG. ?
Thnaks Mr.M!

Varmit/Target/ & just to have/...
It'll get used a good amount.. I have a Ranch Target right now, have found a couple loads it likes, but Im not happy with the performance considering it is suppose to be a target rifle.. How big and how close?? I mostly go after Prairie dogs.. 150-500 yds.. haven't had any issues getting my bolt guns to perform....
I like to reload,, this has been the most frustrating gun I've ever worked with// >:(

Colt used large pins and some have a block to prevent full auto conversion. Most have the large opposing screw arrangement for the forward upper receiver attachment too. If it has these features, it will be a problem should you decide to change to a different upper style in the future.

It sounds like you are looking at the Colt model CR6724, 24 inch 1 in 9 twist stainlees flat top. I did have one a while back and it shot good with factory ammo. (at the time I did not hand load) It had the standard receiver attachment pins, no sear block and the large trigger pins.

If you plan to use the rifle for 500 yards, you will definitely want to use a 77 gr bullet from the mag or 80 gr single round feed which will both require an 8" twist. The AR in .223 is one of the easiest to load for. You can almost use kerosene soaked sawdust to get it to shoot very well.

Edo, Do you have issues with the CS Scope? Curious? Seriously, I don't want to throw my money down a rat hole if there are some serious issues with them..
I've shot one, thought it was sweet///..Was one of the lower end models, but I felt good optics. My buds and I are always going for the 'tight' shots on the doggies, peeking over the mound at 250yds.. The 'De-Cap'.. I have a Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x 50 0n my mini-14T right now, think I'm gonna unload the gun, tho.. Not meeting the long range needs by any means. The scope is, tho,as I've had it on my .204, sweet combo.

Make the Mini shoot, http://www.ruger-mini-14-firearms.com/ruger_mini_prices.php

My 6920LE shot 1 MOA in its stock, 16 1/2" 7tw configuration w/handloads. My 18" 10tw Mini does this after ASI installed their Harmonic balancer upgrade which includes bedding and trigger work.

As JS asked, what do you want to do with it and how accurate do you want it? If you want the AR for bug-holes you will probably need a trigger and barrel/ FF forearm minimum. They are proverbial "Barbie" for men!

I wouldn't be too broken hearted if it didn't do the full 500, as long as it would come home in the 3's.. I have my bolt guns for the real long shots. I'm set up so I can churn out a hundred rounds without wasting my whole evening, without a doubt they are a hoot to shoot! Usually shoot off a bi-pod in close, bags for the long stretches,.. ;D
I haven't been around the AR's much at all, do they have a bolt-open lock? For single feeds? I'm sure they do, for cleaning and such, but other than last round from the mag, are they a pain for single feeding?

I was thinking I'd need a trigger upgrade, it already has the FF Tube on it. Only thing touching the barrel is the gas port and tube.
I've heard mention of the Harmonic Stabilizer/Balancer, it this anything like the Factory Target Stabilizer? This (Mini-14 Target) has got a (rather heavy) screw in/out Stabilizer w/ four set screws.. I've messed with it, haven't had much luck 'tuning in' a load.. so, have just left it flush w/ end of barrel. And don't know anyone (yet) who knows a thing about actually utilizing it..
This is the Stainless Bull w/ factory thumbhole stock, 20" 9tw.
MMMMM.... Barbie.... How do I make the Homer Simpson donut drool noise on here.. :o :-X

My personal opinion of the company is pretty low. The quality also isn't there. They claim that their scopes are over runs from the US Govt, which is BS. Google them and you shouldn't have any trouble finding out how bad they are. I know of only one person that purchased one and he had trouble with it. Never did get his money back and was left with a scope that didn't track. I'm curious where in our great state you are located at? Sent you a pm.

If an AR is set up properly, single round loading is just as easy as a bolt gun while expecting accuracy of 1/2 moa to 600 yd with heavy bullets. Is it like a 7mm mag? No way, but if varmints like prairie dogs and ground hogs, a .223 will pretty much vaporize them at a relatively lower cost of the big guns.

Thanks,,as I'm already a big small cal. fan, .17/.204/.223/.223AI/22-250/25-06..
I've just heard so many differing opinions on AR accuracy, way good, OK, tack drivers.. I'm mostly hoping I can get into a good shooter for under $2000.... They're just like anything else, you can 'trick 'em up' as much as you want..Tho, it sounds like a trigger job is most common for upgrades..
