AR COMP by Alliant

Talked to a tech today from Alliant. I was told that the AR Comp burn rate is between that of RL15 and Varget. Though the 42.4grains is the published max for 168 grain bullets. I think this will be a little conservative. I will start low and work my way up. Thought I would spread the wealth.

For what caliber? 308?

Works great in my 22br and 6br. 31.5 grs of ar comp with 107 smk bullets in the 6br.
I started out at 29.5. Did not chrono. yet.

Yes, it will be for a 308. The write up for the powder states it a good heavy bullet for caliber powder. I don't really consider a 168 a heavy bullet, but I'll try anything once. I'm excited to try it out, but have to get my back straightened out first. Hopefully I will be on the bench next week some time.

How do those loads compare to data offered? Are they loads you had to come up with on your own? Do you notice any characteristics of RL15 or Varget?

Well here are the results. Granted I found a load .4 grains over the suggested max, and I didn't get the velocity I was hoping for.... I'm not going to complain.

Load: 42.8grn AR Comp, ES 4.5, SD 2.8, Avg. 2790, RWS Brass, F210M, Comparator OAL 2.300" (.014" off the lands)

Off of a bench w/ bipod and rear bag. CTC .116" in a three shot group. I feel that if I had 5 shost, it probably would still be under .25" (assuming I didn't throw one).

I should also mention that all my loads were within 26fps as an ES with this powder. I started at 41.5gr and worked my way up to 43.5. 43.5 gave me speeds of 2882-2908fps. The groups started to open up after my first accuracy node. I didn't continue because, who can complain about what I have? I'm most certainly not too concerned. Most of the groups were less than 1" at 100yds. I have one other group with 42.6grns that measures .361" That is with the cold bore. It is obviously the group before the keeper. I was watching them come together as the loads were changing.
