AR 6mm takes 8th Nationals makes History

How does 6mmAR differ from 6mmHagar in case capacity?
Would there be any advantage in one or the other except
one being the first to win Camp Perry useing a AR15 Platform
in 8th NRA National High Power Chamionships.

Water capacity of the cases:

6mmAR - around 36 gr

6mmAR Turbo,i.e. improved) - around 37.5 gr

6mm HAGAR - around 37.5-38 gr

Carl Bernosky is an absolutely extraordinary shooter. He's the best offhand shooter I know of. It is not unusual for him shoot a 199 or 200 on offhand. After that, the match is usually over for everyone else, even if he dribbles a point or two out here or there in the rest of the match, he's usually so far ahead after offhand it does not change the standings. If Carl did anything exceptional to win Perry this year, it was to shoot a great group of offhand matches that put him so far ahead of everyone else the game was over after that unless he made a big mistake after that, which he did not).

FYI, one of the 6mmAR shooters, a master shooter) beat Carl in the first 600 yard match at Perry, finished one point behind Carl in the second 600 yard match, and Carl beat him by 3 points on the third.

Recently I hear Carl shot a 798 at a match in Delaware shooting a different AR with a different cartridge,i.e. a 6mm/6.8 SPC with around 33-34 gr water capacity).

What's it all mean? If Carl was shooting a 6mmAR, I suspect Carl would be hammering away with that too. Are you going to be at a significant disadvantage shooting a 6mmAR vs some other 6mm AR-15 cartridge? I don't think so - plenty of guys have called and e-mailed in some really excellent scores at 300 and 600 yards with the 6mmAR.

The 6mmAR is the way to go man. I dont't think you will go wrong with Robert's upper. I just bought a Rock River Arms A4 Varmint in the .223 and it shoots sub 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. That is good but I will not stop until I have a 6mmAR upper from Robert to go on my rig. Because I want to shoot 500 and 600 yards and buck the wind more than the .223 will be able to. I will be getting with you this week Robert to finalize out deal Pal. Thanks, Bill Norris

Robert,
Thanks for the capacity info.
Horsepower needed in these long 6,8 &1000yd courses with best suited 115gr bullets or less might require a barrel length around 28 inches or would the extra length be a drag on velocy and accuracy.
What's wrong with 24 inch barrels for AR's?
Can a lighter contour barrel be made to compete on this course.
I'm interested in building a new gun and like the looks of stock on TUBB's gun and was interested in approx.cost?
ROBERT,the uppers you build will cost?,and then a lower would run? Do you recomend one lower over the other and why?
Thanks

The 115's are no good with any of those 6mm AR-15 cartridges, just too big a bullet with too long of a bearing surface). The 105-108's are good. With the 6mmAR, it seems anything over a 24" barrel is good velocity wise. A 24" may give up a little bit in velocity over a 26" barrel, but not much. I do a lot of 26" barrels and I have blanks that can go up to 30",for sight radius - don't get any real extra velocity from a 30" barrel over a 26" barrel). The long barrel blanks are a medium/light contour.

For pricing, check the website.

Most people already have their lower so I don't really get into that too much, certainly not enough to recommend one over another). There are some problem lowers out there but I am not able to say they are isolated to particular manufacturers.
