AR-10's used as Service rifle at CMP?

I was told that CMP is allowing AR-10s to be used in matches as service rifles. If this is true I have not been able to find any info of this new ruling. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks for your help.

I believe there is a large thread on this on the National Match forum. Just do a search there. I also think there is a thread or three on it on the Long Range forum too. You can easily get to both by hitting the http://www.usrifleteams.com/

I dont know much about the rule as I wouldnt use one in service rifle matches so I havent really bothered to follow it. Dont know anyone that uses one XTC either.

Hope that helps

Last Call to CMP said they where NOT going to follow suite with the NRA and allow the AR 10 Platform for a service rifle. No the AR 10 is not a Leagal CMP service rifle.

Hope this helps.

cmp is very slow to accept any "change". I can remember it well when AR-15 flatops (with the carry handle attached) were not permitted in Service Rifle matches, and I was not permitted to use mine. Had to use the standard A2 with the non-removable handle, and this at a time when the vast majority of service rifles being used in the early stages of the Iraq War, were, flatops in one form or another. In the meantime, it's OK to run a bolt up thru the pistol grip to screw-together the upper & lower, completely "non-standard" from the as-issue version, and making it impossible to seperate the upper & lower without tools. Strange, the way the "rules" are written. ???
