AR-10 Uppers

Picked up a Savage MSR-10 in 6.5 Creedmoor, nice enough on it's own, but I want to build a .45 Raptor upper. Anyone have any suggestions for a good upper?

Just curious as I do not plan to pursue this course, but why matching?

Bc AR10s aren’t “Milspec” so one company lower might not match another company’s upper. Instead of searching for what companies are compatible it’s just easier to get matching ones from the same company.

I can appreciate that. Thank you!

When you say AR-10s aren't "Milspec", I presume you mean 'some' but not 'all'?

All I know is some would be easier to convert to burst of full-auto fire than others. I have observed this difference.

I've no desire to have an intense conversation with the ATF, SO I LEAVE MINE AS I PURCHASED THEM.

YMMV.
I am very confused by this post? Having looked at many of them and I fail to see how some are harder to convert to full auto than others even with the correct paperwork.

Well most of the 308 AR's are either the Armature AR-10 or the SR-25/LR-308 pattern when it comes to the upper/lower fit. Generally within each type, the uppers can be swapped, but this is not a guarantee.

However, although the MSR-10 appears to have an AR-10 style cut for the upper/lower, it may actually be proprietary and therefore not compatible with the stripped uppers suggested above. You are going to have to call Savage directly on this one.

For a 45 Raptor, it is probably going to be a custom deal.

And the upper has literally nothing to do with full auto conversion. All the bits responsible for this are contained in the lower and no AR receivers come with any provision for an auto sear as this is explicitly banned by the ATF. A semi and full auto upper are completely and totally identical...

just for the record I didn’t mention anything about full auto. Im trying to provide good, relatively inexpensive options for the OPs build. I just hope I’m helping him out a little.

The .45 raptor and I think there’s a .375 Variant both sound like awesome AR Ideas.

Milspec is a big deal. Ar10 is a whole other can o’ worms. 300-whisper is right, matching pair is the way to go. Is there something about the raptor you are hung up on? Pressure? Just trying to understand so I can help you. Also the Ar10 is inherently more $$$ bc there isn’t as many companies producing parts that are interchangeable, it’s like la rue. It’s nice stuff.... but it will cost you a limb or two, on top of being a red headed step child that only certain manufacturers make matching parts/ pieces for. I own an ar10, well an sr25, and it complete rifle from manufacturer, in 7.62x51. I previously had a at-10t in 300rsaum. So I’ve been there. 458 HAMR magnum rated ar15 capable. Higher pressure same reliability. The only downside is magazine capacity. I think you get 9 rounds in a 30 round 223 magazine

You did not say anything about that. SomeOldGuy started that talk. I do not know why probably a fudd but I do not know for sure.

Can you imagine trying to keep an 8# rifle firing a .45 raptor under control firing in full auto?

Yes I can. It would be just like a light 308 rifle in full auto. Controllable becomes very subjective very fast. I like to think of it like this "Just hold on for the ride."
