Apparently I need a new primer tool

Well, sigh. I may have to give up on my Sinclair priming tool. Nothing wrong with the tool, I just appear to be developing arthritis in my right thumb. Makes squeezing the thing not as fun as it used to be.

I can shift my grip slightly so that the handle fits into the area between my thumb and fingers, but, the square sides on the handle make that less comfortable than it could be.

So. Recommendations? A hand primer tool that is easier to work with more of a palm squeeze than thumb squeeze?

Bench mount tool? Can you get a good feel with one?

If you are not loading at the range, I can see no problem with using a bench tool. You will probably laugh, but the latest Lee bench tool interests me. I have a Sinclair and a 21st century so I have no need for more.

the Lee tool is finicky I broke mine, but I didn't quite read all the instructions, the bench top model. now using the KM tool

I didn't try both hands. I'll give that a shot. Maybe I can train myself to do that left handed. It'd add to a very short list of left handed things. :)

Hornady, Lee, KM. Thanks for the ideas!

I had a Lee, an RCBS, and a Sinclair. I tried the Bald Eagle from Bullet.com and have converted to it. Not as sensitive as the Sinclair, but sure is easier to switch cartridges and primer rams. Only thing I don't like is it sits on table and depending how you sit, it may place your face above the cartridge. I just sit to the side and wear glasses like any sensible person would. It is fast, adjustable, repeatable and works well for me at the loading bench

Actually the left handed idea may be best. I use a 21st Century in the left hand and do all the primer brass fiddling around with the right.

I think the magic word may be "arthritis" and it could be time to look at a bench tool that you can operate with your hand and arm rather than you thumb and/or grip. Sorry to say this but I doubt your situation is going to get better with time.

I have the RCBS as well with the Holland upgrade and use it when loading at home. I think you can fit 100 primers in one of the tubes if need be...

My hand held unit, a Lee, just got painful to use. I got the Lee bench unit and really like it. Please read the instructions. I get a good "feel". Don't let a primer flip sideways, they are a PITA to remove. The plastic unit that changes it from large to small primers seems fragile and the primer tray latch needs a little customizing. But, it works and the price is right! Like most Lee stuff! Order extra primer trays so you can store primers in them.

I have bad thumbs, use RCBS hand loader, works well as you use fingers to manipulate it. Holds 100 primers and has good "feel".

In my experience, the 21st Century tool has more mechanical advantage than most others, so it would be a good one to try if you want to try to stay with a hand held unit.

I recently went through primer seater upgrade research and I really like the hollands primer seater upgrade to the RCBS primer seater. I seated for a long time with the primer add on to the rock chucker press. But to get more accurate seating depth I went to the holland. The tube feed allows you to do a lot of priming quickly as well.

It is very comfortable to use. I've never liked squeeze types anyway.

The holland does depend on your brass to have uniform rim thickness so it isn't perfect. But it is very, very good.

A few years back, I had had enough of my Lee hand primer, was irritated with my RCBS hand primer, and didn't want to pay for a Sinclair hand primer. Some folks over on BR Central recommended the Forster bench mounted priming tool. It does work pretty slick, but is a little different/quirky when it comes to how you load the primers into the tube (sideways) and how it feeds the primers into the tool. Very comfortable to use, though.
