apature sights mounted on moa rail?

Im currently setting up a rifle to shoot both palma and match rifle. Match rifle is shot with a scope at 1000, 1000 and 1200 yards. I deed to have a 30moa or more rail to moumt the scope. The rifle currently has an apature sight mounted to a sight block on the side of the action. I would like to have the sights a lot higher but that isnt possible with my current rear sight. Is there a sight that mounts on a picatinny rail made that can be mounted on a rail with. Built in moa

Lipski sight base. It will mount to your rail and has an adjustable side plate for your sight. This is how all my prone rifles are set up.

The sloped rail won't affect the sight like it does a scope. With a scope, the slanted base actually changes the direction the scope is pointed, making it necessary to adjust the elevation to compensate for the angle. This results in your zero being lower in the scope's mechanical adjustment range, which gives you more upwards elevation travel to work with. With an aperture sight, you are looking through it at the front sight regardless of what the angle is that it is mounted. So, in effect, all the 30 MOA rail does with the aperture is makes it so that you are not looking straight through the iris. This will result in the round hole becoming very slightly oblong, like a football laying on its side. The football on its side is just for an example, as the actual change will probably be so small that your eye can't even detect it. Sort of difficult to explain, hopefully it makes some sense. Your rear sight will work the same mounted on the 30 MOA rail as it does mounted on the side mount.

Good luck,
Erik

Muffo,

Centra make a version that is designed to mount on a weaver/picatinny rail. There would be no issues to mounting this on a tapered rail as you would most likely always use the same mounting slot so the eye relief is constant. Even if you mounted it at a different location I doubt if it would make much difference to your zero and your sighters should easily accommodate that anyway. I think you would need an adjustable front sight to make sure you can zero at all yardages though. I had a similar set up but using an Anschutz rail rather than Weaver with Centra rear and RPA ladder front.

Richard.
