Anyone Tried RL17 On 6.5x47L

reubenski: Do you mind letting us know what charges you are using with 130 Bergers and Varget. I have been using 38.0 grains of Re15 with these but I have been unable to locate any Re15 now and only can buy Varget or H4350. In my rifle H4350 isn't as accurate as my Re15 combination so I am continuing to look at other powders. Thanks for any info you can supply.

Steve

Steve, I use 40gr of varget with Danzac coated 130 Bergers and Wolf small rifle mag. primers with excellent results. If your bullets aren't coated start a few grains less. My velocity is right at 2900fps. Hope this helps.

Steveb, maybe your loads with H4350 have been a little light. I am using this powder with a load of 41.8gr for 2920fps which is very accurate in my barrel.

I found a lot of the quoted loads for H4350 and the 130gr VLDs to be too light to achieve accuracy in my gun but at 2920fps I'm on the 4th node and shooting very well. Work your way up in your load and see if it improves the accuracy. My barrel is chambered to accept 120-140gr projectiles.

Any info on Varget loads with naked 130gr VLDs would be appreciated, as I am also interested to see what success shooters have with this powder.

Thunder: I worked up my loads from 39.6 grains to 41.0 grains. However, didn't go much further because all I read indicated a max load slightly above that and the accuracy got worse the higher I went above 40.4 grains. My best accuaracy occurred about 40.3 grains, however, Re15 gave better groups than this. Thanks, Steve

I've got a 24" sprorter barrel in 6.5X47 Lapua, that I've been shooting rifle silhouette with for the past couple of years. Last week I finally had the chance to test some Reloader 17 in it. I've previously tried 5 different powders and was never satisfied.

Reloader 17 looks like it will make the 6X47 Lapua a viable cartridge. Remember that this is only a 24" barrel, but I got a solid 2810 fps with 7 fps extreme spread. 40.2 gr. Reloader 17, Wolf small rifle magnum primers and 142 gr. Sierra Match King, .010 into the lands.

Thanks JRinCo, Just what I was wondering about. I've a 24 inch
Bartlein in 6.5L and some RE 17. This rifle is not up and running yet - I'll be starting with 123 SMK and 130 Norma. Happy to read your 142 / RE 17 report.

An old thread, but am wondering what loads folks are shooting today w/130gr VLDs? I've not found anything that works as well as the 140gr Hybrids in my rifle. Am especially interested in the crono results where you are getting the 130VLDs to shoot the best. Thanks.

HAVE'NT TRIED RL-17 BUT MINES SURE LOVES H-4350 40.5GRS 130GR VLD'S AND IT SHOOTS BUGHOLES I'M GET ABOUT 2750FPS W/THIS LOAD

The main load in my 6.4x47 Lapua Accuracy International AW is the 140 Berger BTLR.

The rifle has a 28" Bartline barrel, and also carries a Quicksilver suppressor.

Average velocity = 2865fps
Extreme spread 8fps
Berger 140gn BTLR 26409
Reloader 17, 38.5 grains
Primer CCI BR4
Case Lapua
