Anyone shooting Lothar Walther barrels?

I've got a 1-8" twist LW barrel coming this week for my Savage .243 Win. and am wondering if anyone is shooting the DTAC 115 in theirs.

Don't want to order 500 bullets if they won't stabilize.

Thanks!

I only ever tried out one bolt gun with an LW 6mm that was supposed to be a 1:8" twist barrel. Unfortunately, that did not even stabilize the 107 gr bullets. It would stabilize 85's, so maybe LW goofed and sent the wrong twist, but when I measured it, it measured out right around 1:8", so who knows what was going on there. I am sure LW makes a ton of barrels, but I have never seen anyone with a premium rifle shooting one of their barrels, and I suspect that's why you are not getting any response. I had some 6mm 1:8" twist AR-10 barrels made by LW, but I never tried the 115's in them.

Ive got the same barrel ordered and was supposted to have shipped last week. I only plan on using for hunting but I think you are asking for alot by trying to shoot bullets with less twist than the manufacture recomends. I plan on trying Berger 95's and do like the idea of having 1" faster twist than required for varying circumstances. Id order 100 and then try them first if you think you have to have them, also the 105-7 grain bullets may be a better choice but may not staibize in all conditions at all ranges.

Robbor,

I saw your posts at Savageshooters.com and appreciate you answering here.

My current Savage factory varmint barrel in .243 Win stabilizes the 105 AMAX with no problem, and shoots the Berger 95 VLDs into Sub 3/4 MOA groups all day long at 3250 fps. I've check my barrel twist and though reported at 1-9.25" twist, mine is just at 1-9"

If the LW is true I'm going to order a couple hundred of the JLK 105 VLDs which they state a 1-9 will stablize. We'll see.

Please keep me posted as to your load development, and I'll do the same if you'd like.

Robert,

Thank you for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it.

I've heard nothing but good things about the LWs at Savageshooters which is why I ordered one. I'll be anxious to see just how well it does,or doesn't) shoot.

One of my 22-250AI's has a LW barrel. Of about 13 or 14 different brands, it's my favorite. Fast, very accurate, and after 90-100rds there'll be hardly any copper and only the slightest trace of blue. Plus, wear has been 1/2 to maybe 1/3 what you'd expect from 50's going real fast.
