That would be my argument. A 6mmbr, to me, has no recoil at all after shooting my 270win. If I was going to move away from a 6mm or even a 6.5 it would have to be taking advantage of the heavier end of the .284 bullet line with the ridiculous BCs in the .7 range give or take. Velocity does matter, it's not all about having the highest BC in any gun. My opinion is if you're not trying to compete compete so to speak or you have enough money to play around then by all means have at it. No reason you can't get a custom reamer made specifically for a particular bullet(s) in the 7-08 and a top end Krieger or Bartlien barrel, and a nice top end action, that would get you some great accuracy that you can tote around to clubs I'd imagine. I plan on being a .277 nerd so I'm right there with you on the odd-ball guns used for competing. The 308win case has a great reputation and is pretty efficient. No reason it couldn't, but most people want to shoot the heavies a bit faster to make the extra recoil over the 6 and 6.5 worth it, thus all the 284, shehanes, and saums out there.
