Anyone shoot 125SMK in 308?

Specifically in a slower twist barrel? Short range.

I have been loading some lighter weight bullets for my wife in a Remmy 700 that she shoots from the bench at 100-200 yards. Getting ready to barrel another rifle for her and thinking about doing a slow twist 308 to shoot the 110-125 range weights.

She bought me nice shiny new Lapua 308 brass for Christmas and so I now have plenty of good used Lapua brass for this project.

There are a bunch of "light for caliber" bullets since the introduction of the .30BR. I have shot Varmint bullets(110-130gr.) from a .308 and accuracy was fantastic however the low BC makes shots much over 400 yards pretty tough. I ran 3031(compressed loads) but since finding a Benchmark load with the 155's I am going to have to reevaluate. What twist are you considering? I run a 13tw and can stabilize 168 bullets. Good luck with your build and keep us updated.

I have really wanted a 30BR but I have plenty of good 308 brass and being able to use that,as well as my existing match dies and seated is a big pluss. I am thinking about a 17 twist if it will stabilize the longer 125 SMK. The 125 SMK and the light Berger are my main considerations. Purely for fun under 200 yards. I have 3 other 308's for the heavier bullets.

I had good results with the lighter bullets . flat base 125 Speers, as I remember. Found a box when I was moving supplies to a new bench. Shot them at 100, out of a stock Remmy 5r. I had/have a ton of 168s, so when the 125s were gone, i didn't buy ant more.

although not a bolt action precise rifle I have had very good luck running this bullet on top of either 8208XBR or ARComp in an M1A. 41 grains of ARComp and they will shoot cleans at 300. This rifle has a 10 twist barrel.

I'm going to start loading some this weekend for a bolt action 308 with H4895 and 125 B-tips for a reduced hunting load. Going to start at 42 and go up to 44.

my 308 loves 125 smks and speer 125. both with 47.0 gr. of h4895. good out to the 600 yard targets at williamsport. plus hardly any recoil MARK25-06 oh ya, its a 10 twist.

I saw several 1-17tw 308 blanks listed on Krieger's inventory list a couple of days ago - don't know if they'd stabilize a 125MK or not, but it'd be a quick way to get into a 17tw blank if you're interested. Berger's online twist rate calculator would be excellent app for finding out what the minimum twist rate would be, but they list only their own bullets, and I don't know if they make anything comparable to the S125MK or not.
